What should my next step be?

I work in Healthcare SaaS, solid product, good market fit, up until this past couple months everythign has been great.

Was a high ranking SDR last year and got promoted after 11 months in the position to basically a SMB AE. Around the same time probably 3-4 AE's had left for more lucrative offers after racking up experience (this is to be expected).

In my second month selling last month i 200% my ramping quota, so i've been doing well, but this month bookings are down due to our parent company having legal issues with the lead lists we acquire, so there has been a push on us as AE's to self gen leads which has never been a thing for this company.

Obviously I can see the numbers and am getting relatively worried, but i love this job and product and am damn good at selling it.

I've only been an AE for 3 months, not long enough to farm other AE jobs, and i will literally kill myself before being a BDR again, any thoughts or advice?

My advice, stick it out and suck it up for a year. Then you will have enough closing experience to move around.

That’s my what my guts telling me. Stick it out and if they let me go i’ll get a nice severance package and if they don’t i’ll just gain more experience.

Exactly. In the grand scheme of things one shitty year won't even be a blip on the radar once you move on to bigger and better things.

You were a high ranking SDR… so what’s your problem with getting your own leads? That was literally your job for nearly a year.

i was a high ranking SDR with lead lists i would call into, these lead lists have been recycled 10x since my SDR days and we are not allowed to scrape leads from Google, Zoom info etc. I’m left with calling my closed lost lists which wouldn’t be an issue except i’m only 2 months into closing, which makes my closed lost lists virtually useless.

That makes no sense to me.  I can't imagine not being able to call into basically anyone I want to (within certain parameters based on relevancy).  That doesn't sound like an environment I would personally thrive in.

How bad are the legal issues?

polish the resume and start floating it out to the world.

We call into healthcare practices basically, when we were squired our parent companies legal dept stated that we cannot use these lists because we don’t have consent to call them? I don’t think it’s anything crazy and more so just beauracratic bs, i believe it will get sorted out but who knows

If you really ' are not allowed to scrape leads from Google, Zoom info ' then run. Polish up the resume, tell on it what you have told us, top performing rep, 200% of ramping quota, and the reason for leaving is you aren't allowed to prospect net new accounts and contacts due to legal issues with the company so it's unfair for you to stay an AE there. I think people will understand. I'd say jump to a competitor bc you know the space and pitch yourself as the savage you are. I'd ping a few people who you mentioned left as well to see if they can put in a recommendation for you or get some referral money at the same time

So, two things:   1, start getting the resume out, and 2, you're there, don't wait for the lead list issues to get sorted out, start working on sourcing your pipeline.   I'd work with the BDR to sort out the best way to get to new contacts.  I mean, it's nothing new to have lists dry up or not be the best, and it's in your own interest to work on building pipeline.

Also, don't be afraid to create independent skiffs for your BDRs if times are tough, throw em $50 of your dollars for every meet that survives your disco and remains a qualified lead. Grease the wheels on top of your own effort to build up a solid pipe.

Good call, i think making the best of what I have is probably the play. Just scared of the mass layoffs

Are you concerned that your company is going to fail or scale back?   Concerned about the possibility of mass layoffs at your company, or ... ?  Even if so, keep at it until you're advised otherwise.   Meanwhile, you can get that resume out there.

Update your resume and stick it out. While you are there, you need to learn how to prospect on your own anyway, as that's normally a requirement of an AE. 😉

Stick it out, show you’re willing to grind when times get tough and you’ll stand out from everyone else
