What would you do?

Question for you fellow savages...

Back in the fall, I started conversations with a regional executive with "Company X" that was referred to me by a recruiter. We've had Zoom calls, phone calls and even met for lunch. Since day one, this executive has expressed interest in hiring me for a pretty large role (I'd lead an entire state).

My frustration is he keeps kicking the can down the road-- all while confirming that he wants to hire me (this is a new role).

I'm to the point I'm not sure if it even makes sense to follow up with the guy AGAIN.

Meanwhile, I have been interviewing for other positions with other companies. It looks like I will be getting at least two offers, and possibly three.

What would you do? Reach out to the guy I started a conversation with back in the fall to see what's going on? Or simply move on...

Thoughts?

I would let him know that I love being transparent hence I am letting him know that I am considering other opportunities. If his level of interest matches yours, he can connect to discuss next steps.

Email the guy and let him know you have other offers. He needs to shit or get off the pot.

Thank you. I feel like I should at least let him know I’m considering other offers.

A friendly note that confirms your interest, but clarifies that you’re no punk. “Hey, love the idea of the role. Hit me up when it actually exists.”

Always go with what you have in hand vs a possibility. As others have said be up front and polite. Say “listen I like the possibility of this new position. But I have another offer in hand. I’d like to come work for you though. But if you can’t commit I understand. Let me know”. And see what he says. If he balks, and you like the offer you have go with it.

Good luck.

If it was me i would tell the guy you have been speaking too that you have multiple offers and will be making a decision on (x date). And if they don’t come through then move on.

If you REALLY want to work with that company let them know. But you need to consider that the way this company is treating you and the role is not positive haha. And a major red flag to me

While I think the role would be a great opportunity for a significant leadership role, it does cause me concern that certain professional courtesies have not been shown. He’ll go from ghosting me to acting as though details will be lined up by “x” date. Then nothing again. Definitely a red flag.

He sounds like many big talkers I’ve run across. Full of promises and potential in the moment, lousy at follow up. Take the advice given here, follow up with him to let him know you are considering other offers, and see if it gets you a response.

“Hey brohemian rhapsody,

I’ve appreciated the transparency we’ve had and I want to honor that.

My interest in joining XYZ company is still extremely high but without knowing if it’s going to happen, I need to ensure I’m looking at all options.

Is me joining the team still a priority or can I focus my efforts elsewhere?

Much appreciated!

Yeah sure why not, even if a simple email won't hurt , just cuz you referred that it wasa pretty large role that you may not find that easily again!
Even if no response, you still have the other 3 alternatives so you have nothing to lose anyways.
Best of luck.
