They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Job hunting is tough. And its a real reality check. When I have had bouts of unemployment, everyday was a battle to keep my self esteem up, keep my spirits high, and keep up the same energy I had day 1 in day 60+ of job hunting.

One thing I learned is that just because a company publishes an opening, doesn't mean they are really hiring. Seems counterintuitive (and wrong) but some companies keep a job opening up to "see what's out there".

If the job is real, than your competition is dozens to possibly hundreds of other applicants. Some toss their hat in the ring cause all they had to do was "click apply". Others really want/need the job (like you, I assume).

All I can say is keep at it. Every application, every call, every LI connection will get you one step closer to being employed again.

Great advice. All I'd add is the usual:

If it's a position you really want, pursue it like you would a sale. Reach out to hiring managers/team leads and try to break out of the automated hiring system.

Then itโ€™s likely due to the fact that SaaS doesnโ€™t see tourism and hotels as relevant experience.

Shot in the dark here but guessing that if you are applying to jobs and hunting in a lazy manner similar to this post then you have your answer... Bringing the heat this Friday

I was a bit more direct in my heat, it hasn't been a week based on his LI and we get this post.

So many posts about this exact thing. It's a tough market for those with experience in specific verticals, and even tougher for those trying to switch.

Lots of advice about how to craft a resume to highlight success in a way that translates between agencies.

But unless you get specific about what you're looking for, what you're facing, what you're trying to do...this is a post just howling into the wind. Which I can respect, but won't help much except for therapeutically.

I tried and was met with silence. Really tough to switch industries when everyone is looking for industry experience.

Particularly when there are so many with industry experience also looking.

My advice to anyone wanting to make the switch would be patience. Now may not be the time, but in a year or two? Could be much easier.

Genuine questions:

1. You've gone from a sales director to a Sr. Account Executive. Why would I take someone with a title downgrade if I'm trying to grow?

2. Sales orgs like metrics. Why is your LinkedIn profile sparse with what you've done for the past 7 years?

3. You've been at it 4 days from what I can tell, that's not even a full work week. Why do you think holistic interview processes are that fast?

4. Do you even want to be in sales? You're also looking for marketing positions.

A word of genuine advice: check your ego, be patient, be diligent, hone in what you're actually looking to become.

Job hunting is never easy and in my experience, it provides more questions than answers.

Sometimes, it comes down to little things. Humans are so picky and although you may be the best applicant, you may get beaten by things beyond your control.

Persistence is the key. Pick yourself up and try again. Good luck.
