I had promised to IT manager from the Ghana school who signed up with us that I would be happy to give them a free PD session if they sign up the entire school. Usually, we charge for these pd or training sessions and there is a separate team which is responsible for it. I thought - what the heck! Whatever it takes to get the signature.
So I conducted the pd yesterday and we had a full house. 49 teachers were on the call. It was funny since everyone had their camera off, except the IT manager. It was funny how the teachers were acting like students. And also how corporate employees act in team meetings. Looking at the turned off cameras didn't give me a lot of confidence in the beginning to be honest.
I think I managed to do a pretty decent job though. The 45 minute session got extended to an hour, since teachers had some questions at the very end. And also because I was going really slow. If they had their cameras on, I would have at least gotten to know the pulse of the room better. I made all of them join the platform / game as well - so that was pretty cool. IT manager in the end acted like a strict headmaster saying - "i'll drop into everyone's classrooms next week to see if you are using this tool or not. i'll drop by randomly" - that reminded me of my school days lol.
I fucked up at some places, but i did not expect not to. PD was well received and appreciated. I felt audience was engaged since i was taking constant feedback and pauses throughout. In the end, I was thanked and asked to share the recording. So I am happy.
