Interview/Mock Demo

was curious to get everyone's thoughts on doing a mock demo as part of the interview process? I've gone through and done a few now since beginning to interview and would love to get takes on how you've approached them

My approach is I try to control the narrative. I do this with all role-plays both for interviewing and just yearly role-plays with leadership.

Especially for an interview they know way more about the product and competitors so they can stump you pretty easy. So for prep I will always ask the company they will be in the demo and the titles.

So I usually find a case study on the website. Find 3 pains and know how the solution helps them for each title they will be in the role play.

Once the mock demo starts I do “recap” listing out all of the issues they are currently having which will be the same challenges in the case study. Do the demo showing the product and how it helps. Then talk about the case study. Then close.

There’s a few posts about this, if you want to search and see some previous commentary.

Are they asking you to do one or are you wanting to do one? I assume they are asking you to do sell them something.

I'd treat it just like a real selling opportunity. Ask discovery q's, deal with the objections they throw out there, etc.. Close them at the end.

Asking me to do one of my current product or any product and sell to their company. Thing is our AEs don’t demo our product ever the SEs do and they aren’t really in our customer profile

It's about the disco and framing not the demo

That’s how I’m approaching it but they did say they want to see my demo abilities . I’m reaching out to one of the panelists today to get further clarification and expectations

They don't really care about the product you are selling, they care about how you structure the call, what questions you ask and going a layer deeper, and of course how you close it out and setting up the next steps.

Ooo I prepared for a role play for a AE job recently (which I landed) and luckily, the 5th out of 6th interview they threw me a freestyle mock call (I mean freestyle as in I wasn't told before hand to prepare for it) good thing I prepared and aced the mock call lol - they always try to take you away from the script and throw common rebutals, just remember mock calls are NEVER like real calls so, easy to handle rebuttals just go right back into moving the lead along the script so as others said, just keep control of the sale. I think thats the biggest thing for mock calls and the never breaking character. Those are always my 2 things I keep in mind when doing mock calls either for this role or previous interviews for SDR gigs, just keep control, acknowledge their rebuttal and bring them back into the script, keep pushing and never break character.
