Accepted a job but have since uncovered more negatives, have a final interview elsewhere tomorrow. Keep my word in accepting the one job or go to the interview?

A week ago I accepted a job at a company with a great base pay increase (from $65k to $85k) and OTE. Former employees on repvue have made it sound like it's extremely difficult to hit quota (RepVuew shows 39%) with a ton of prospecting and high turn over but from my understanding there's new leadership and they're working on changing that. There's another company I've been interviewing with and I have a final step with them tomorrow. I feel like the right thing to do would be withdraw my candidacy and focus on the job I accepted but the other place has a really great product and a lot of growth potential (they've already experienced higher inbound than previously projected). Repvue shows 47% of reps hitting quota.

Either company will look great on my resume as it moves me into tech sales. I just don't want to miss out on an even better company only to face the firing range 6 months from now if I'm not hitting quota.

God damn I wish I could share the company names.

Accepted an offer I'm having doubts about, have 1 more interview elsewhere. What to do

TBH, both are missing quota by more than I'd be comfortable with.

I guess honesty is to be commended, but yes. That’s a lot missing the mark.

Just because you interview doesn't mean you'll get an offer extended.

That’s very true. And there’s a good chance I won’t. But I want to prepared in case I do since I’d be starting this other one in a short amount of time.

Why quit before you get an offer in writing? I'm not seeing your logic.

Oh! I think there’s a misunderstanding. I wouldn’t quit this job yet, I’m asking if I should pull out of this other interview since I accepted this other job. More around what’s the right thing to do.

I still would interview first. What if you don't like them? Don't screw up a sure thing too soon. 😉

That’s true. And by interviewing with this other place, even if they take a week or two to make a decision (assuming they go ahead with me) that gives me time to feel out this other place. I’m probably just overthinking this like I do everything else haha.

if you are concerned about getting fired in 6 months.....take the other interview.

100% ALWAYS do whats in the best interest of you.

if this other place gives you an even better offer, take it and dont look back.

if they dont, then buckle down and dont look back.

its a win win for you.

dont worry about acting like a gentleman because any company will cut you loose when they need to.

This ^^^^ the only person that truly has your best interests/ growth/ success in mind is you.
Do what makes the most sense for you and don’t worry about the company bc at the end of the day you’re just an employee to them

Employment (at least here in the US) is AT WILL - meaning they can/will fire you at any time - with little to no notice.  Its their fault they have all the bad reviews, not yours.

Absolutely do the interview the other company!  What do you have to lose?  Nothing.  And if they give you a better offer - take it.  Its your life, career, etc.

One thing I've learned in sales is to ALWAYS take calls/interviews with other companies. Layoff's happen. Buyouts happen. Waking up and realizing you hate your current job happens.

Not only that, it lets you keep tabs on the market to see what other companies are paying for your role. It lets you see who's growing. If they're hiring to add headcount, you know the company is probably doing well. If they're hiring to replace people who left, that may not be a good sign.

Stay educated about what's going on in your industry. Interviewing is a good way to do that and to make connections.

I wish you could share the companies too. Some advice I got on here recently is try to see if 2/3 reps are hitting quota. That changed the game for me on what companies I was looking at on RepVue - it knocked off several on my list that were around 50%.

It's a big step in the right direction for my career - gets me out of ERP software in a vertical I have 0 interest in that's slow to change (not agriculture slow but close if that gives you an idea of the industry), targeting small companies and into tech sales selling into companies up to 2k employees.

Great question!  I did research the company prior but some stuff I asked on Repvue anonymously which took time to get replies. By then I had already accepted because worst case scenario it's still a much better paying job than what I have now, in an industry I'm way more interested in. Plus in my current role, no one has hit quota in 4 years except on enterprise. (I've only been there a little more than 1 and just barely hit 100% with my prorated amount)

Yeah, the other company is the better one.

I’d take the interview. Worst that happens is they make you an offer and you have to decide what’s best.

Always do you first. You owe it to yourself to do what’s right for you - this is your career. It’s a big decision. Keep the interview and see what shakes out. If they take too long and you really want this job vs the one you accepted you can leverage that in your follow up. If they want you, they will make it happen -That’s my two cents!! Good luck! I hope it works out for the best :)

After a final interview round, what's the best way to let recruiters know that you kinda need to know about their decision asap ?

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldn’t be in for very long. They’re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now I’m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldn’t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.
