AE making £250-300k in London?

Spoke to an AI company, the HR girl said thier best SDR now an AE (been in the compnay for 4 years) is making £250-300k right now (in London). I cant imagine this AE being older than 25 (becasuse they started as an SDR straight out of college), does this sound too good to be true?

Too good to be true? No. Not with a built up pipeline, product knowledge and knowing the in’s and outs of the market + 4 years of expertise using that companies CRM and finding the best leads. Is it realistic that an external hire will see the same results in the first 12 months? Probably not. But the right person with the proper background and attitude could probably get close.

Agreed, she was one of their first SDR hires as well. So I get what you mean.

Yup. They will always brag about the biggest success story and make it seem like it's the norm. Research.

The only ones making that much are selling for US companies or selling into the US, Middle East, or Switzerland.

This is a US AI company, their best performing area per head count is in Europe.

It sounds possible to me. However, it will be a top performer. Age does not matter when you crush quota's

In London?? Sounds pretty fictional or it is just one time it is ever happened ever and has never ever happened since ever.

Fair enough, what kind of salaries have you seen that are realistic?

I'd say around 50K pound base and 50K commission. Maybe 100k base in big tech companies with a lot of experience... Otherwise don't hear of it being a regular thing to earn that much. Hell otherwise I'm moving to London from Dublin.

Okay in 6 weeks of looking and searching ive seen higher numbers than that, so how have you seen these numbers?

Just based on talking with people whom I know who work in London. So it's more of hearsay.

It's nice to know it's possible, but an outlier doesn't represent the reality. What's the average?

Didnt ask, she said she only knew of this AE

These numbers, when coming from HR in a screen call, have a margin of error influenced by the screener’s joy when they hear the candidate’s enthusiasm after making the claim. The number is likely grossed up, but somewhere near accurate. If you hear that from a hiring manger, it’s straight bullshit.

fair enough, ill keep that in mind

p.s I am getting much better and more comfortable in interviews. This was my 5th one I think.

One thing that I did really well in the interview is to say that I fkkkking love making money in a "good way". I have always hesitated to say that before in an interview even though everyone in this community and others told me to say it, but I think the HR girl loved it because they want sales guys to love money and it came across as genuine.

That's what made me enter SaaS and Sales with my first BDR gig 7 years back. I remember my then VP Sales - his eyes doing the cha-cha - when I boldly declared I wanted to out-coin everyone on his squad.

I am one of those and I know other Ent AEs making those numbers in London if they are hitting quota or just above the numbers in OPs post. I am selling B2B SAAS solution with a ticket size of around $250k+ ARR with a 10 month sales cycle and I have around 7 years experience in Ent sales. Mainly selling into to finance and energy companies.
I would say it would take at least 2-3 years to get to that OTE level just given sales cycle and pipeline required (for Ent sales anyway) this all assumes you get hired on a pretty good base also £100k+.

i had quite few interviews where VP was highlighting the income based on top performer... then i figured that others were only 30-50% of that... I'd suggest to message current or ex-staff on Linkedin to know the real picture

AE’s at my last co, were on a package of around £190k, so it’s entirely possible overachieving reps are making £250-300k. This was in Data, not AI. That said, only one of my team overachieved last year, most were in the 80-90% bracket. They are Enterprise AE’s.
