I agree, with nowadays tools you can find the DM in a couple of clicks, but in my case I enjoy more building a relationship with the customer through time rather than open the relation from the beginning :)

thats the key to sales; plant as many seeds as possible and then nurture them until they come to fruition. And keep planting seeds, never stop the front end of the pipeline.

Farmer, but thats literally my job. I sell to orgs that already have some of our stuff and I want them to buy more stuff and become multi-mil customers. It's a different kind of sell, and it suits me better. Tried the farmer stuff and my anxiety held me back massively. Huge props  and respect to those who do it, and do it well.

I am the same as you, I sell to orgs that already have bought some of our products, and I feel more comfortable creating trust and make them growth. I truly admire my hunter colleagues, they have that special way to detect needs and close new deals that I envy, in a sane way :D

It is hard to say one or another. Depending of the client and timing you may be farmer or hunter but once you smell blood you have to kill it!

Big Fan of Farming, my org focuses more on the hand-off after 6-12 for cross-selling, and upselling. I personally prefer the farmer role. I think it suits my personality better and is a lot better for my own sanity when it comes to burnout.

Question:
Who is easier to teach to be the other hunters or farmers??

Great question, I think farmer is easier to teach, hunters require some interpersonal skills that are difficult to teach. What do you think?

I voted for hunter, but I am currently both. Have a mix of current customers I am responsible for growing, as well as new logos I have to hunt.

At least for my company, I find it harder to qualify and close the farmed inbound leads we get because they're super trash, unqualified, and are extremely flakey. I am baffled by the amount of people who blindly fill out forms and request a demo of our product when they don't know what we do or what they want.

I'm a hunter and have been my whole career. That being said in my current role there is upsale potential that I certainly take advantage of.

good marketing is discovering needs and satisfying them with products or services in a subtle way... so if farming is marketing and marketing means selling, I may be a marketeer

I've only ever been a hunter. My org is UK based and does not have a lot of brand recognition in the US, aka 0 inbound leads. Every single meeting I book is outbound.
