Balancing personal brand with prospects on LinkedIn

Yo, so, my LinkedIn is mostly sales posts and it's great cos that's what I learn, am interested in and can speak about. But my prospects are in a completely different industry.

Does posting about sales make my profile less attractive to prospects when I send connection requests?

Should I balance between personal brand, company brand and social selling (I don't think I'll be in thus industry long enough to benefit from this).

Should I just use LinkedIn for personal brand and portfolio. And prospects will accept my requests because I'm a genuine profile w developing thought leadership.

Your prospects don't care about your LinkedIn posts. For the most part only people in sales and marketing (or people looking for a job) spend any time on LinkedIn.ย

I think that this is too black and white. If you can curate a good brand on LinkedIn, and drive some engagement from clients then your prospects will engage and value your posts.ย

If you just post press release after press release from your company or what interests you then itโ€™s gonna be shit.ย

Like anything, be authentic and smart and itโ€™ll pay off, in my opinion.ย

You're better off commenting on content that your prospects post. In 15 years I've never had anyone come to me via content I've posted or shared. However, I've got plenty of meetings by commenting on others posts, or referencing their posts in outreach. If revenue is your goal, trying to become a thought leader and develop a brand is a distraction. The only people this matters for are sales consultants who prey on other sales people who think they need a brand. Looking at you Josh Braun...

Ah this is so helpful! As a newbie all I see is Salespeople and their brand on LinkedIn and I'm so intimidated. But I always assumed the guys who make really big bucks don't even bother there. My mentor makes North of a million and only comments on posts so I was really confused by evrrything out there. THANKS

It's all a big circle jerk. influencers posting for other influencers.

The most successful salesperson i work with (they'll W2 close to $3m this year) barely uses LinkedIn.

I have wondered this for years.ย

i finally feel like I have found an industry that I will try to stay in for a long time so I try to be active in that industry on LIย

- connect with potential prospects
- connect with "thought leaders"ย
- be active in the comment section of post and shitย

I also share shit on LI to try and teach my "audience?" about my view of the industry as well as the product I sell.ย

I try NOT to post about sales stuff because i dont think anyone will care.ย

if ppl start to see my posts and think " oh that guy has cool thoughts on the industry"....than thats a win for me.ย

I am under no elusion that my prospects look at my profile and decide to buy from me.ย

I don't really want my prospects/customers to see me as a "sales guy" so I usually stay away from the LinkInfluencer posts about sales.ย  I so badly want to comment on and share @GeneralCorp's posts all the time, but I'm too chicken shit because everyone can see what I like and comment on.ย  Don't want my customers to see me in that light, no matter how true it is.

@baysharkย - I was in your position a couple of years back. So firstly, the dilemma is relatable.

I'd say you think about providing value first, and let everything else be secondary. The more you do that, the more 1st-hand feedback you'll collect and in one or more of those feedbacks, you'll find your answer.ย

Is the value to potential prospects or my sales peeps?ย

Cos I'm not that interested in my prospects industry. But I am interested in sales and tech.

My brand is different to my target prospects so should I just focus on myself. Which is what a lot of people have told meย
