Best fitness app subscription?

My company gives everyone a gym stipend of $900/yr and it's use it or lose it. I'm WFH and stay indoors pretty much 90% of the time. (I have not left home in a month :(...it's beyond my control).

Since a lot of sales people are from sports backgrounds, I'm guessing you might know the best online fitness subscriptions, classes, or apps?

(Note: the stipend does not include equipment, only classes and whatnot)

I've been looking at obe but I'd love to get some recommendations.

For context, I am a flabby beginner who needs to work off this covid weight and improve mental health :(. Looking specifically for something that can be done online since I'm stuck at home.

Thank you for any help 🙏

Channels I'd recommend:
- Jeff Nippard
- Athlean-X (copped a lot of shit for using fake weights but has good advice)
- Alan Thrall
- Jeremy Ethier
Most of these have lots of videos brought out specifically for COVID home workouts with no or minimal equipment

Diet and a regular exercise routine are the most important things. All about consistency. Lots of great material on Youtube for home workouts that you can use without having to spend a cent. You can DIY a lot of things, but some investment in home workout equipment would be a good idea.

Just eating healthy and some exercise is the best way to start, if a gym is an option take it, you’ll get a trainer who can give you an eating plan as well as a routine

If you're looking for a subscription service to help with your diet, I'd highly recommend Carbon Diet Coach. It's an app that has an algorithmic, "smart" coach that automatically adjusts your calories and macros based upon your goals and bodily response to its recommendations.

It's science/evidence based, and gives you the flexibility to eat what you want, as long as it fits your numbers. And, it's $8-$10/month based on the length of subscription you choose.

No, I don't work for them lol. But, I've had a great experience using it in taking control of my diet, and building sustainable habits to live my life with!

If you have an Apple watch, Apple fitness is a great choice, there's so many varieties of workouts for all abilities on there!

Also, something for free, you can do some great workouts following YouTube videos - I'd recommend: The Body Coach TV and The Body Project

I have used ClassPass for years - you pay a monthly fee for a.bucket of points that you spend on virtual or in person classes. I try and mix up cardio, yoga and pilates but they have absolutely everything available so a great one and done subscription.

Aww bummer.. since covid they do have a lot of virtual classes usually for 1 to 3 points, it helps me to know it's at a specific time and I paid a couple dollars in terms of motivating me to actually show up. Anything totally self-driven and on demand is really hard to follow through with for me.

I've been thinking about this since I was on a similar spot in 2017. If you can get access to a gym "within a 15-20 mins distance from home" and with a free weights squat rack, this program is life changing:  https://stronglifts.com/about/ . I ran this program with zero free weights experience and got an amazing strength foundation.  Randomly I got to meet Mehdi and he told me this program is not forever, but that is a quick and efficient way to get into lifting for life, and he's right. Brotha, if the gym is not an option yet, then do this:
1) Sign-up for ath-lean x program without weights
2) Get a nutritionist, the kind that looks like he or she has abs or has a great physique.
3) Move daily by either walking x number of steps or by jumping rope  https://www.jumpropedudes.com/ - do 5 mins session of jumping rope for starters...

Call Iron Lion Performance in Queens, NY. They will hook you up with a lot of great stuff, one on one personal training (virtual if need be), online class archive and work with a lot of professional athletes (MMA fighters, boxers, baseball, soccer, basketball, football, EVERYTHING) as well as normal humans in all life stages. So much you can do with body weight and some water jugs and kitty litter!!! It will be MUCH cheaper and you’ll get nutrition support as well. My guess is around $250-300? They’re also big on injury prevention and form - which is what most places lack.

For a mix of yoga (power, restorative, vinyasa, etc), core/cardio burn, HIIT, meditation, all in one, Alo Moves is pretty good. You can sort by type of class, intensity, duration of class, etc. Yoga Glo also has great selection of teachers but more yoga and meditation focused. Yoga has helped me get real lean and develop a strong core, and since they also have meditation and breathing classes included, it helps with your mental health without needing a meditation app subscription.

Cardio rules all when it comes to getting in shape (this coming from a 275 pound, 6'7" man). If you are looking to use your stipend effectively you might look into a Peloton subscription.

Biking is low impact so if you are overweight or oversized, like me, it is way easier on the knees than running.

I'm debating on the peloton.  It's what most of my co-workers use and the stipend covers the subscription.  Would love to have enough commish for the pelly!

Might be a bit late to the party here but I've trained across a few different apps so can share a few perspectives on what I liked. At the end of the day, it really depends on what your goals are for your overall fitness (i.e. are you an endurance person? do you want to get stronger? more defined? more athletic / dynamic movements? olympic lifting? CrossFit?

There is no right answer but you need to decide what the end goal is and then tailor your app choice to that goal.

Anyway, here are a few of my thoughts:

- VOLT: Very customizable and personalized workouts based on your ability level, size, goals, etc. Pretty sport heavy meaning the app will customize your workout programs depending on what sport your choose (i.e. football, basketball, boxing, etc.)

- FitBod: Pretty solid AI to personalize workouts and suggest weights based on previous inputs. I liked it but I did not find it overly creative. One nice feature is that they customize workouts based on equipment available to you.

- BodySpace (by Bodybuildng.com): I used this before they turned to a subscription but I really like the diversity in programs they offered. Anything from strength training to mobility to HIIT workout. You can also input your results in real time and it suggests weights for you based on your max so you dont have to try and guess what weight + rep range is correct.

- FightCamp: Boxing trainer. The full equipment + subscription is expensive but I used just used the app to provide the video workouts and i would shadow box along side. I was a total beginner when I first started FightCamp and they do a good job reviewing the basics of boxing before diving into the workout. They range from punches only to full body, core, legs only workouts. Really fun platform.

Sorry for the length. Good Luck!

Thank you for all this! I would classify myself as a beginner again seeing how I didn't move much from covid and can't go outside much.  I'm really looking for a regular program where it'll help me setup a routine.  Something low impact that will keep my healthy but not looking to be a buff triathlon athlete.

Happy to help! In that case, I would take a look at Fitbod given it doesn't require equipment and can keep you on a solid routine / program.

The biggest thing for me when I was relatively new to fitness was diving into a program with some structure so I didn't have to put too much thought into going to the gym. Just needed to show up and get to work. Fitbod does that pretty well.
