Case assignment?

AmI am interviewing with a company that I like and after the initial screening they decided to get me to next stage but they asked me to prepare for a comprehensive case study about their company.
- While I am capable of doing it I don't want to get used and have my ideas taken just like that because this requires a lots of preparation.

What is the recommendation in this case?  Should I ask them for an Nda?

Curious have you done this? I am interesting in knowing what the companies says when you bill them during the interview process.
I see this advice a lot here, so I feel like someone must of billed them before

No need. Either they get the hint to not ask for free work or they don't. Have no problem walking away.

Just as an update - you were right. I spent 20 hours to prepare that presentation which I believe was perfect. But they chose someone else and I believe they were in advanced stage with someone else so I was a backup.

It was a good exercise but never again, without sending the hourly rate.

If it a known company just use ChatGPT to draw
Up the case study. Pretty easy. Don’t know why you’d want an nda in place.

I have just done 1 till date and the amount of time I spent was crazy, I have decided never to do it again lol. You can ask for an NDA if you prefer to do it but how would you make sure the things that you are proposing is not being used at the moment.

I had to experience this by myself to know the struggle. I will send the hourly rate from now onwards.

If you were in marketing or somewhere else, probably in your best interest. Not sure what an AE case study would be other than seeing how your mind works in relation to the company and its customers.

It is a given that they take your ideas during interviews. Hell had a friend doing content and the company used his ideas in their social media without ever hiring him... Just have to hope you are the best candidate for the role.
You are facing competition for the role, do you think others would bother with NDA?

If you were very high up then I would get it

that's a tough one. Sometimes you just have to take the risk. Remember ideas are easy, execution is hard. They might try to steal an idea but fail to implement. Or you may just get hired. Give it your best shot!

Does the NDA stop them from just taking your ideas, it's pretty hard to prove they stole IP from you... do you get a bad gut feel from them or not?
