Closing an interviewer?

I have 4th round behavioral interview on Wednesday and the prep email the internal recruiter sent to me said "don't forget to close your interviewer!"

Maybe I'm dumb for not having heard of this or actively done it before, but does anyone have tips for closing an interviewer?

This is all you want to do. It's simple, not pushy or out of place, but you're asking for the business and giving yourself the opportunity to address any reservations.

My go-to as well! And then, if they do have any hesitations, it gives you the chance to showcase your objection handling skills

Ensure to "hard close" the interview by asking decisive questions like “Is there anything stopping you from moving forward with an offer now?” as this shows your readiness and enthusiasm for the position.

Treat the interview like a sales pitch where you ask for the job at the end of the interview.
Before concluding ensure all lingering questions have been. If you know you have a weak point (employment gap, lack of experience, etc.), bring it up yourself and be ready to defend it.

Ask insightful questions that show your plans for success in the role such as "In the past, what did other new hires do to succeed quickly?" or "What will be used to measure my success in this role at different periods of time such as 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year?"

Validate the next steps before leaving the interview. A good sales person always plans the next step prior to the meeting ending.

Be sure to send a thank you note within 24 hours and a follow-up call 2-3 days later if no follow-up plans were discussed during the interview.

Use your energy and closing style effectively.

An interview is not about giving ultimatums but working together as a team.

Close the interview by expressing your interest in the role. This shows your commitment and allows the hiring manager to see your sales skills in action.

Remember, the key is to always be closing.

If you have the right closing line, closing in the interview is VERY smart to do. Something like "is there anything preventing you from recommending me for this position today?" Or similar.

A good sales manager will recognize the game and respect it.

Always confirm the next step. Kosta has some great lines below, but the worst thing you can do at the end of the interview is just get off the call without asking questions or establishing what's next.

Exactly. Never, ever, leave a call or meeting without a next step mutually agreed upon.

Here's my favorite two:

"What do you consider a good employee? *they talk about it* Great well I feel I showed some of those qualities on this call.

It’s all about next steps, and getting things closed for you to win. Thank them and set follow ups for reaching out and start dates (etc).

One thing i found helpful if you haven’t practiced a strong close before (practice it ps. Record yourself on zoom doing it, watch it back, are you coming acrosss with equal businsss stature? More you watch yourself which is tough - better you will get).. but i digress…
If the room feels stale and you’re someone who can rely on a little fall back of comedy to break the ice .. could say something along the lines of .. “now listen, i wouldn’t be a good sales person if i didn’t ask you this now would i?.. is there anything stopping you from moving me forward in the process?”

Can play with it but you wanna go for the no here.
And remember - treat this as a sales process. Most buying happens when you aren’t in the room. You can also use this time to get more info on what the internal dm is looking for etc.. this decision will happen behind closed doors that you aren’t in - so treat it same way you would a sale in that respect. Also if they say “no you’re great moving you on”, great time to ask what the next interviewer looks for , prep etc. I’ve found interview processes you can use many of them like a champion too to help you.

Again.. i now digress haha
