Company credit card vs. carry your own.

My company is giving the option to have a company credit card, with the promise of a very simple expense report system. We currently carry our own cards, and the expense reporting is annoying, but not awful. Prior to Covid, I travelled constantly and ran about $100k through my card yearly, so I would get about $2k cash back, which I kept.

Switch to the corp card, or keep my own?

Keep your own and get those points.

They covered a lot of my wedding/honeymoon expenses.

Use your own. I'd say the 1-2 hours you spend is worth the $2k you get back.

My company nixed us using personal cards and forced us to use the company cards...that delta sky lounge must be real legit.

If you carry your own then you get to rep the extra benefits of travel, cash rewards, etc.

I have always had to use my personal, but wouldn't be opposed to using a company card instead

If you have a good personal organization system and open credit - use your own and get those sweet, sweet points/cash back.

Using your own lets you get all the benefits including miles and status. However, I did use to have a corp card and it was really convenient though. Although you still have to do your expenses even if you use a corp card.

ive used my own and now ive had a company card for the last 8 months and had about 5 -6 work trips.

It is SO much easier to have a company card because i dont have to stress about being reimbursed or forgetting and all that shit.

BUT

i would 100% use my own card if i could! The reward points are too good to pass up on. i hate booking flights and hotels and not getting the extra points.

I have done both, but I probably prefer using my own for the additional miles/cash.

The negatives of your own card is the 2 hours a month doing an expense report, not knowing personal budget wise where your credit card is (you credit card will be at a couple grand, but you will assume its all expenses when its actually high b/c of you) and losing receipts if your company needs them.

I always use my own card for the points. If they let you have the choice and you get reimbursed quickly, it's worth it.

If they are pushing you to Corp Amex, you can link it to your personal Amex account to get the points on purchases. However the corp amex is just 1 point per $ spent, no 3x dining, 10x travel or any other perks. It's not great but still get the points at the end of the day. I think it's like $75 a year to link your corp account to personal, I expense this fee and have had no pushback.

Company cards still require doing expenses. If it's not a big deal for you to use your card, the $ back sounds worth it to me.

I stand with the others on to using your own: it may be a little annoying. But all the benefits you get from miles, cashback and positive credit score (as long as you are responsible) by using your own card it's worth it at the end of the month when going through reporting it imo
