Company keeps extending promotion path

series b company with a great product market fit but it is the "nice to have" of all "nice to have" products, especially in this environment.

we recently got super competitive with pricing to accommodate for that (seeing deals close at 60-80% mark down from list price)

when I signed on it was SDR --> SR SDR --> ISR/AE

They have now added 4 or 5 new roles between this path and every month (literally) there is a new reason why promotions won't be happening or more hurdles to jump through

my thought is they have no intention to actually push a lot of people up and are trying to make it as difficult as possible to just admit the truth

am I reading this correctly do you think?

Probably.

if you're a top performer talk to you leader. Let them know how much you like it there and you want to know what you can do to be first in line for the next AE role. If they give you a fluff answer without specifics you know the chances are slim that you're getting moved up.

What the heck are the 4 or 5 other titles added between Sr. SDR and AE? If they aren’t willing to crest a clear and achievable path to a promotion, leverage your experience for a role with a company that offers a “have to have” product or solution.

How long have you been there, how are they staffing these roles now, and has anybody been moved up? Basically, has anybody actually been promoted, or are they hiring externally…or just not moving anybody at all?

Keep interviewing like you do and try and network more internally, bring up the concerns with your manager, schedule 121s with AE managers and ask what you need and ask them to be your mentors.

Bunch of new roles between ISR/AE sounds ridiculous though
