Company Philosophy

What would your company prefer, both scenarios happening over 2 months:

  • a sales person going on 50 sales calls and making 15 sales
  • a sales person going on 20 sales calls and making 15 sales

Wanting to hear how companies differ on their “sales philosophy”

20 Calls and 15 sales. My company wants you to hit your numbers, it doesn't matter if you hit it in one deal or over 50 deals. Our quota isn't based off the amount of calls you go on but the amount of deals you close.

It kinda seems like my company has the only culture where they would rather you do 50+ sales over the 20. At the end of the day, the sales are what matter most but I am constantly being hounded for not enough sales calls.

20 calls and 15 sales, better closing ratio and use of time.

Agreed, I was #2 in sales for the country but at my review I was torn apart for having the lowest sales calls in the country.
I was walking into it thinking they would be happy I was more efficient with my time

I believe in working smarter not harder, 20 calls to the right people with 15 sales is a great conversion rate.

20/15

I don’t care how little or hard the team works as long as the numbers add up end of quarter/year.

More power to the salespeople who can do less with more.

I once had a killer salesperson and everytime she closed a deal she told me she was taking the rest of the week off and I didn’t care because she always delivered.

The benefits of working at a small company and the owner not having any policies in place except get him his annual number.

Are those 50 sales calls considered "one and done" or can you build pipeline over time?  That makes a huge difference.  If you are continuing to build over time I'd prefer that you run 100 sales calls.  If it is transactional and you burn prospects on a sales call then I really don't give a shit.

I would say as long as you are making the sales then it does not matter the dials but at my company we have to meet our dials for each day, no matter the sales.
