Cybersecurity - Darktrace

Checked out repvue for this company I'm interviewing with - darktrace - cybersecurity. Rated like 79. The role is for a sr. bdr, but I checked them out...Some girl from my undergrad is an enterprise AE with little sales experience and from a health-tech background.

I noticed there are a few openings for an AE there...I work in IT infrastructure - similar in a way to cybersecurity, but on another side. I still call/email CISOs, CTOs, and CIOs, and I'm familiar with cybersecurity because there is overlap.

My question..how can I convince a recruiter that I'm eligible and a good candidate for an AE position in the initial call even though the role I was recruited for is a Sr. SDR position?

My AEs at my current company will vouch for me if needed, but on the phone..any advice on how to structure my conversation with the recruiter?

Look it up on search but getting hired as an AE at DT, you will be doing 90% SDR prospecting work anyway. If you have a good territory you can make money but you will have someone breathing down your neck.

Also you have two different quotas - 1 for trials (two net new per month) and one for revenue (2.5M USD)

Sorry that didn’t actually answer your question..honestly find a sales director and DM them on LinkedIn. Not sure how it works on this platform but I can connect you with one

Thanks for sharing this info. I looked them up on Gartner, ^ Repvue, and other forums. That's absurd. So I'm assuming you mean 2 POC[V]s / month and $2.5M in Closed/Won per year?

I work in cyber security sales and can promise you this is a company you want to avoid.

Yep can attest to this. Some offices have bigger SDR teams available than others. But at the end of the day, if you're not meeting your numbers, you are fully expected to be doing your own prospecting and cold calling. Or so I've heard...

What you could do is look through the 'requirements' listed on the AE role and then be able to list out how you meet those. I'd imagine some of them are similar to the Sr. SDR role. If anything, they'll tell you to come in as a Sr. SDR and then promote you from there

thanks @braintank ! The recruiter is a 3rd party - should've added context on that too.

@braintankthanks for the advice. Had my interview yesterday. Went through the standard questions and at about 10 minutes I pivoted and referred to what you mentioned. The interviewer agreed I was qualified for an AE role based on my experience and knowledge of the industry. AE interview next week. I'm working with the recruiter (3rd party) and a friend that's an AE in cyber to prep for the interview.

Interesting, didn’t know they had BDRs. I’ve been approached many times by that company and it has always been for an Full cycle AE role. I’m a BDR with 1.5 years of experience. They usually recruit people with no AE experience. What’s your background?

My current role is a sr.bdr in IT infrastructure. Before that I worked in chemical sales for 2 years - full cycle. 4 year college degree in business for whatever that's worth.

Yeah, so you are clearly qualified for their AE role. What's your college GPA? They want a GPA above 3.0

I saw that and I thought it was weird. Usually, only consulting or IBD wants GPA. Mine was 3.6

Yup that’s just one of the red flags of Darktrace. You have all the criteria to be an AE there. Do you really want to work there? If so, I can send you the name of the recruiter that last hit me in August. They are probably still hiring.
