Did i drop the ball?

So I recent accepted a job offer without even negotiating.

Now it did fall within my salary range but I felt like I could have asked for more but I didn't because I was really in need of some thing.

Basically I was a runner up during the whole interview process, I was told someone else got it that was a little more qualified. About a week later manager contacts me again to go have lunch to discuss another opening that just opened up.

Chatted a bit and then verbally told me what my salary was and I only thought about it for about 15 seconds and just accepted it without asking for more.

Could I have asked for more at that point?

Sorry. Good for you for getting a job, but lesson learned: always ask for more.

What would I say though if they gave me what I wanted within my range? Tell them I wanted it on the higher end?

Could you have asked for more? Yes. Should you have asked for more? Maybe. If you got a job you really wanted (and needed) at a salary that you had previously determined was acceptable to you, no one should blame you for jumping at it...and you shouldn't blame yourself or second-guess yourself. Consider yourself lucky and focus 100% on crushing it in your new role!

No man as long as you needed it at that time, fine you shouldn't regret anything!!

But at a later time whenever you'll prove yourself at this position you can ask to be matched with the other guy or even possibly get promoted who knows!!

Best of Luck man!!!

At the point of offer before accepting is the best time to negotiate. Have you started the role?

You can still negotiate but it’s a lot more risky. Your current company or another place you are interviewing “cold you out of the blue” and extend an offer 5k more or did a counter offer when putting in your two weeks

This will ruffle some feathers but if you want to push the envelope you can

You could always have asked for more, but it seems like you got a great job. Prove yourself and ask for more later.

For sure it's a great role and company. I'll have to try to prove myself for now.

Of course, but any inquiry now is risky. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get more.

There is always a room for negotiation but best to do it before you accept the offer. It won’t look good if you do it now. Out of curiosity - why change in thoughts after accepting?

I mean if you are good in sales... you'll make it up in commission? And then they will promote you faster. Not the end of the world. You learned and then it's time to just move forward

This happened to me in my current role. I thought the salary offered was incredible, and it was $30k more for my base than my previous company. I accepted without question. A year and a half in, I found that new reps were coming into my position at a higher pay than I was, so at that point I was able to put my foot down and ask for what they were getting + some, which I wouldn't have been able to do if I negotiated early on.

So it's not impossible to recover from this. If the pay is acceptable, kick some ass and get some results, then ask for more than you would have been able to get upon first accepting the job before proving yourself.

Great example, i suppose I need to find out what others are making, maybe I am in line with them since its actually a great company.

Should have asked for more. This is when you have the most leverage throughout the employment process, even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes.
