DJ or Live Band

big thing I am working towards is paying for the wedding. big discussion is over the music, do we splurge on a live band or get a DJ to play any type of music.

band is typically 4K more than DJ for what we have been seeing.

Get a good DJ and spend the extra money on your honeymoon.

^^ What we did. Plus this way, you can have ANY kind of music you want, and a great DJ can also keep the reception going the way it's supposed to.

Doing this meow.

Voted for a band because... would have done it if we would've found the right band. That's the toughest part imo.

We had an amazing band (8 people) and nearly a decade later people still say it was the most fun they've ever had at a wedding. Granted, in laws picked up the tab.

We had a DJ and it ruled. Unless there's a band that you both absolutely love, a DJ will be a crowd-pleaser and they can play exactly what you want.

DJ.
And make sure approve the playlist in advance or they will probably play stuff you don’t like.

Depends on the vibe you want at your wedding. Classy fun time - band. Straight up party - DJ. Also, what’s the demographics of your guests? Older crowds like a band and I’d say younger go for the DJ.

Credibility: I’m a wedding photographer

Pro tip: skip the wedding and elope somewhere cool and save all that money for a house. Come back later and do a reception for family

DJ - a band could be great but I wouldn’t want to be limited to one type of music or sound for the night

We went with a DJ as well! We both loved the idea of a live band, but since it is live you want to make sure you're getting someone good, which comes with a hefty price tag of course. Like others have said, it does also depend on the vibe you're going for. We wanted the lights & smoke machines for more of an all out dance party and the dj seemed to fit more with that than a live band would

We had a live band for the first half and then a DJ later on. For the cost I'd go with a DJ but live music is pretty awesome.

The live bands are awesome, but when you’re paying for it, might as well have a cousin plug in his Spotify playlist

Honestly though. We paid for a Dj and he was trash, never played songs we requested

we had a band and it was 100% worth it. we cut out other areas (like floral, wedding cake, favors, etc) to justify the extra $2K. the band kept the dance floor packed the entire night!!

Live band guarantees people will be on the dance floor. Don’t count out the fun of scouting a band too. You don’t have to book a wedding band. Check out the best cover bands at local bars.

The best live bands cost a TON. I had a DJ and it was great! Just do research of what you really want as an experience and what your budget can take.
