Do any of you work from a dream destination? Like Bali, Fiji, etc? ADVICE? RECS?

I'm curious as I'm pretty much decided on remote work for life and living in a resort/destination location. Was considering Hawaii but not sure. Would love to move to Bali and WFH from there.

Has anyone done this or do you know anyone working in another country other than the US, while have maintaining a job in the US? Some top performer at my last company secretly moved to Japan and management didn't hear about it till 9 months later but he was performing even better and the type of salesperson the company couldn't live without so they kept him.

In theory, would be great to earn US Sales monies while living somewhere I dream of.

do ya?

I live in Puerto Vallarta. I am from Wyoming and I go back for a couple of weeks every 3 months or so. Because of this, I don't need any kind of visa as I'm still technically a "tourist", I don't pay Mexican income tax (it's stupid high), I don't pay state income tax (Wyoming), money goes a hell of a lot further, my company doesn't care because legally, I'm a Wyoming employee.

@SaaSam man, get your temporary residence visa fast! airport authorities are breaking down on tourists that come and go every few months!
Check the regularization program and/or book a visa appointment at a consulate, Phoenix or San Jose tend to have more slots.
Shit's getting real at my location, INM checking the FMM expiration date and arresting European and American tourists.

Interesting, I've heard that some folks have gotten a hard time from immigration when getting off the plane if they are planning to stay any longer than a few weeks. When I'm questioned about it all I say is that my wife and daughter live here and I come to visit them regularly while we work on my wife's visa. Questions stop after that.

It's an amazing state. Dream is to own a decent-sized ranch by the time I retire.

Ok, that will hold me over for about 4 hours - you're doing the lord's (or @funcoupons 's ) work.

In the meantime I'm going to see if Deshaun Watson is feeling stiff and needs a spare hand lol.

I got dropped off hitchhiking back in the day near Sandusky Ohio. No Mofo would pick me up for about 8 hours, chased off by state troopers, yelled at by Motel 8 clerk trying to sneak a women from the bar into the room, worst 24 hours of my life.

I have soooo many questions - lets start with: What year was this? (Also I know that area and I assume the exact Motel 8)

While I live in a pretty popular US tourist location (it's not quite Bali) but it does bring more benefit than having snacks in the office and the added benefit of beautiful weather 364 days a year. If you can make it work financially and with your companys' communication style/workflow, I would 100% recommend.

I’m finding it challenging to find companies that pay well, are US based and let you work anywhere. The company has to be set up a certain way. I’m working on my UK work authorization status now but have been fishing for these US companies or getting a temporary work sponsorship to fill the gap. It’s tough.

right. and like if I were to move to bali while maintaining a job in the US I think you can only live in bali for like 6 years w a visa and would then either have to find a job there or something like that

6 years sounds like a long time; idk the rules there. But most countries only let you stay for 3-6-12 months at a time; unless you’re on a specific work visa or relational visa of some sort. And there’s a shitload of different visas. Last thing you want is to get questioned by Customs.

Well I guess I’m not thinking of a permanent situation, but I want to routinely travel somewhere working remote. I could of spent a week in Cancun a couple weeks ago but I’m hella fresh at the new job and didn’t feel comfortable. I 100% want to go to Spain though.

I think you would struggle to find a company that lets you live in a different country to work. I know for example my company is remote, but you still have to be in the US. With that said... give them a family member's address and claim it as yours and they would probably never look into it enough to figure it out.

...this is not me encouraging you to lie to an employer by the way...

In tech? I disagree, there’s such a labor shortage & a lot of our engineers are overseas anyways.

My company doesn’t give a fuck, but my company is also very chill

I would be interested in seeing how many companies would be fine with it for sure. My company for example requires us all to be in the US if we are a US employee. A lot of reps are required to live in their territory as well because we do a lot of on-site visits with clients that are further along in the sales process. So for us it just wouldn't really be feasible.

A colleague of mine is the company's top performer and has a place in the Virgin Islands. First time she went HR sent her an email she could be terminated for working outside of the country. VP of Sales set HR straight as they tried claiming cyber security risks...well we own companies in other countries, so???

I’ve lived abroad a few times - check visa regulations. You can’t just pack up and stay in any country for an unlimited amount of time.

Costa Rica just dropped a “digital nomad visa” where you can work remote for a year while living there as long as you make >$35k US/year. I worked remote there for a month in February & it was very comfortable by western standards, plus they’re on CST.

Bali’s dirt cheap, I’ve been a few times, but the time difference is quite the bitch. I’m not sure about their visa regulations but I know a lot of expats/influencers live in Canggu so I’m guessing it’s chill

Ohhh also - Australia, New Zealand, & Portugal all have “working holiday visas” where as long as you’re under 30 you can pack up without a job & stay there for a year.

You also can get a job there as long as you keep it <6 months, & if you want to extend you have to do 78 days of farm work(they have labor shortage issues).

I did this in AUS, was incredible, but doesn’t fit the criteria of dirt cheap where your US $ will go far

I spend the summers working from our lake house. I love it but it’s not for everyone. Hard to focus when you could be on the boat.
