Does marketing react like this?

From someone who has a few close friends in marketing… yes. Yes they do. I put in an opp once stemming from a marketing event and got 10 slacks from different people asking me about it and telling me how excited they were that it stemmed from their campaign.

What is missing in the picture is the kombucha keg and the bongo drums though.

That is overkill on marketing reacting that way. Pretty sure they'd take 10 days of PTO if we had a lead from marketing close as an opp.

Haha, I can just do imagine them justifiying those extra days off.

They'd say they needed that time off from working a hard 20 hours throughout the week.

Once a week we get "content syndication leads" which are basically leads we randomly acquired from a 3rd party, saying they downloaded some of our content. Every single response I've gotten from one of these leads, they said they've never downloaded this content.

They just send piles of crap consistently.

Ew.

My marketing team likes to send over leads that don't even use our product currently (rare because I sell employee benefits so if a company doesn't already have them it's usually for a damn reason,) and often the contact that goes with it is a non-DM. Admin assistant? Can definitely ok a five or even six figure expense!

Surprised my eyes haven't fallen out of my head from rolling them so hard.

My marketing team likes to take credit for cold calls. OH but we primed them 3647362 weeks ago, by sending them this random email that wasn’t even opened! That’s why they liked your pitch. 🤦🏻‍♀️

That is maddening to hear they love to take credit for calls they wouldn't even know how to make.

Worst part is the "Marketing Brief" you have to submit, that needs approval, and then the questions on it, with no timeline of completion.

By the time it comes back you've either already closed or closed lost the deal.

Classic marketing brief to put it off for so long that the deal is already a bygone at that point.
