Does my lack of motivation mean I am in the wrong career?

I often find myself struggling to get motivated to do the "extra stuff" that would make me a super successful rep. I typically am doing just enough to meet quota and meet expectations. Does this mean I am in the wrong career? I think the problem is my own laziness but maybe its because I am not truly "passionate" about sales. Any advice would be appreciated.

Will doing that extra work get you more money? That and the competitive nature of being a "top rep" is what motivates me.

However, I struggle motivating myself to pin point what activities will actually lead to the deal versus what is just a mundane activity task that will appease my manager

Motivation comes from a lot of different places. It could be that sales isn't the path for you. But I can tell you that I've worked in a number of different careers and getting comfortable is very easy. Once you know what you're doing it's easy to just do enough. From my experience, what helped me stay motivated, was consistently doing more for a period of time. Not by being motivated but just by doing it. After that time was up I became...I guess you could say habitually motivated. I didn't want to do the minimum because I had gotten used to doing more. That always tended to snowball for me and make me want more.

You need that dopamine. Do something that you can win at 100% in a slump.

Make your bed, put the laundry away. EZ wins. Get that mindset back with small things. You'll be back

There are many factors. Does it come and go? It could also be your manager. It could also be misalignment. It could also be personal life

As a sales professional, did you think through and design your career path, or were you thrown in and now you're just winging it?
