Doing live demos at a conference

Today is the last day of the biggest conference of the year for my team.

We fucking crushed it this year and im super pumped about it.

One real nice thing we did was have 2 demo stations at the booth where me and the director of strategy were demoing the product.

No other company was doing this and it was a real game changer. We were able to show quick parts of the platform that ppl cared about and engage in better conversations. also at times it would draw a crowd and that was exciting.

Pumped to follow up with a number of accounts.

Anyone else demo at shows? In the past we had been hesitant because the product wasnt quite right and were scared ppl would point out flaws.

Great to see this! Weโ€™ve an exhibition next month and ill def want to do the same thing. Were you running the demo all the time so that passerbyโ€™s would see and stop?

No, we did have an โ€œexplainer videoโ€ playing if we were not doing demos. If we engaged with someone we would offer to show them the part of the product we were talking about, or asked โ€œwould you like to see it in action?โ€ Then walk them through a few key areas of the product

I used to demo at shows, but my platform is now too complex and requires an NDA to really get into it. Itโ€™s a cool way of doing things, and I love to watch them/do them. Instant credibility.

Yep. Also great to show mobile if your platform has a good app. At a past company weโ€™d do a 20x20 with a demo station on each corner and each rep had the app ready to demo on their phones.

Iโ€™ve found best results using mock case studies running without sound on a big screen. โ€œDo you have this problem?โ€ Or โ€œDid you know you have this problemโ€ messaging. Live demos can yield closed deals at shows if the price point permits. Had some big days at shows. Glad that worked for you.

Startup that I worked for a few years back had two sales engineers running live demos at our booth. My job was to corral folks into eye/ear shot so they could see them, then schedule time once the demo was over.

Really liked the approach and it created some great returns.

Unless itโ€™s a small booth (table top or 10x10) we always set up a demonstration.

A little easier with equipment but a lot of companies do this at conferences in my industry. Brings people into the booth to have product they can see and touch.

Love the ability to do demos when possible. Weโ€™ve also done recordings we can play if the bandwidth on the floor becomes questionable. Glad you had a great show!
