Good day, bad motivation

Hello!

Dear friends of the WR, today I bring you a little anecdote.

Today one of my friends invited me to go out and have a drink, he told me that he needed my advice, so, here is the story

My friend is a person who has been in sales for years, he is not a rookie. He told me that lately, he feels guilty and depressed. He tells me that where he works now he doesn't have an office or a space and that they all work very together, his colleague who touched him to his right is a top seller.

Lately, whenever he calls a client and fails to close a deal or attract a new client, he listens to how his partner is on fire. Caused his morale and self-confidence to be hit... but here comes the worst, he tells me that he also feels guilty for envying or wishing that his friend is not doing so well.

Advice, I told him to work in a cafe or something, because as my grandfather used to tell me "no matter how good you are at something, there will always be a Chinese who will do it better" haha a way of saying that there is almost always something better and It's okay, you just have to do your best and that's it... But yes, I also understand that it must be a pain in the ass to feel useless every day at work

The sales are hard, but I think we all know

The more you attract something (unintentionally) the more you experience it. Changing thoughts is the work around.

I relate what they are going through to baseball and going into a slump, your friend starts pressing and they start unknowingly sounding more desperate in their voice (think ol' gil from the simpsons).

This was my method when I was feeling that way or was in a slump in baseball (by no means is this the exact way to do it). I took a step back and went and got myself black out drunk to the point that I knew I would have the most miserable hangover the next day. Woke up and forced myself to feel miserable and go to work or go to the ball field and keep things as simple as possible and just let my natural instincts kick in. I was to hungover to really care but it forced me back to center. I wasn't pressing anything and typically that resulted in a hit or two or a deal or two closed.

Sometimes you just need that slumpbuster to get you back in the right mood again.

I hope your friend kicks the slump quick and is back on fire soon.

Getting hammered to reset the clock, never thought of it.

Will also probably never do it, that sounds awful lol

In my early 20s it wasn't awful..in my 30s now I have a few drinks and I feel hungover for 48 hours. So less of this as I get older but it wasn't bad in my late teens/early 20s playing baseball and just getting started in sales.

Sounds interesting right? but I think it's something that works for him, but the underlying idea is still valid

Well, you're still young, I guess that's why you don't suffer so much, I do it now and I would suffer for 1 month haha

I hope so, but currently, they say that depression is the disease of this century, and more and more people suffer from it

Sales is tough no matter what. We all fell into this profession because we were ultra competitive and a lot of times we "lose". I would be looking for wins outside of work to boost my confidence and otherwise, just be disciplined trying to close deals.

I personally dont think working in the cafe would be a long term solution so they best would be to have a conversation with yourself. Understanding what has changed that has caused the slump. A question I ask myself to help improve, is "What will my replacement being doing".

Its also important to understand those feeling are normal and they are hard to deal with

Self-criticism is one of the hardest things a person could do, in my opinion.
