Drug tests

Worried about whether there’s a drug test when going to a new company? Scared to ask because it makes you look like a pot head? I got great advice the other day, tell the recruiter you like to eat a poppy seed bagel in the morning sometimes and you know that poppy seeds flag as opium during drug tests (if you take adderal you can do the same thing and tell them you’re on prescription meds). Now you have a perfect excuse to find out if you have to pass a test to get the job.


What’s your go to for passing and finding out about Drug tests?

Pretty sure that poppy seed thing is a myth perpetrated by a Seinfeld episode...

You have to be able to show that you have a prescription, in terms of the adderall subject. If a poppy seed bagel is coming up in your company's drug test, chances are your company doesn't take their testing too seriously to begin with. The poppy seed bagel thing is also not true. It's 2021. Do you really think they can't tell the difference? 20 years ago it may have held true but not anymore. Your best bet is to just not do drugs before you have to take the test or if you really can't stop, get yourself some help man.

To piggyback here - you don't tell the people taking the drug test. Your test will come up positive for whatever, the drug test company will contact you and ask for prescription proof, you send it and it's no big deal. I can speak for Adderall.

Just dont take the drug test if you don't want to and withdraw from the process. 

It makes no sense to come out of the gate talking about your love of bagels. 

Have you thought about just stopping drug use while you look for a job? Seems like the most logical solution.

The only thing that I know for a fact tests as cocaine but isn't, is a kind of tea - coca tea, which is widely available in Peru. 

Canada lost its Olympic spot for their equestrian team because one of the members supposedly drank it and failed the drug test. Granted, I also don't think its a stretch that she actually did cocaine and is using that as an excuse but her daddy has big bucks  and I'm sure its a plausible explanation. Still didn't fly, however, and I doubt that your employer would care either.
