Fallen from grace

When I got my first sales manager title, it was very impressive!!!

---to me and to my ex-wife's father, the divorce attorney, who represented her in our case. Still, I was highly thought of - as a very incompetent manager. Now, roll it forward some 20-ish years. I've developed as a sales leader! I know things now! And what a blessing it is to have amassed the knowledge and the necessary skill-- in time to 180 into an IC role.

Yesterday was a really good day. Ima have another one today. Hope you do too. #ImFree

I donโ€™t consider the move from IC to Mngr or the reverse as a 180. One does not convert into another and vice versa.

Weโ€™ve all seen ICs who make lousy mngrs and good mngrs who couldnโ€™t sell their way outta a box.

My mngr in my previous company was actually a decent one because he could cross the Tโ€™s and dot the iโ€™s very well but his sales performance before being made a manager was pathetic.

Good luck in your new role.

No shame in playing the game that you have to play.

I hope itโ€™s fully remote at least.

Nothing better than watching people grow - and mainly in sales, as really good leaders ! A rare sight.
Never a straight line, but I'm loving it for you. :)

It's kind of incredible to manage up, my director is 5 years younger than me. it's funny to see the nativity shine sometimes.

Same boat. Iโ€™ve got a CEO my age and a VP 10 years younger. I havenโ€™t actually seen his head yet because itโ€™s buried in his bossโ€™s a-hole.

I make him feel very important.

Good to know. As someone early in my career, happy to know that you don't need to know everything and that it does get better.

Yes, I'm grateful to have landed in software sales. Especially the SDR role. There are highs and lows. It's easy to feel like I'm not smart/capable enough compared to those around me...but then again it's a blessing to "not be the smartest person in the room"

Still odd to think one can actually be excited about their career.

Cheers
