Fellow savages, we've been in this pandemic for over a year now...what are you doing now?

This time last year, I was enjoying office culture, and just doing my thing. Come St. Patrick's Day, I was locked down, doing nothing..a year later it feels much like that.

What have you been doing? Have you gotten better? Worse? Did you get ripped or fat? For me, the change wasn't terrible because I WFH for 5 years in a previous job. But, I'm starting to get cabin fever all over again.

What have you done that has maybe helped you? Or something you wish you could do and need encouragement?

I've picked up some hobbies like painting and video games. I have also used Airbnb to have short stays in nearby places. Short stays with my friends or girlfriend in a cabin or lowkey hotel have been the best part of the past year.

I ended up selling my house and moving 2000 miles back to my home state and I'm working on buying a house here. I'm closer to family, which has been nice, but further away from pretty much all my friends, which is a bummer.

I lost a bunch of weight, then put most of it back on.ย

I dedicated a bunch of time to new hobbies (baking, photography, video games).ย

I'm hoping to get a nice home gym once I buy a new house so I can get ripped... I'm also hoping to have more space for my new and old hobbies.ย

word! I just bought a 5br house and best believe one room (my office) will be filled with overpriced equipment. I'm kinda leaning towards NordicTrack or Bowflex. but may just find a pandemic special from a closed gym and invest in big TV and Apple+ subscription

When feasible, take breaks if your mind is telling you to. Don't feel guilty, listen to yourself & get in the mindset of adding a hobby to help.ย

i joined LunchClub and am hooked. Great way to meet interesting new people which has led to referrals and new opportunities.ย  I spent last year really getting into meditation and into my head to improve me.ย  Best thing I've ever done in managing mental health.ย ย

I picked up a massive eating habit, 6-8000 calories a day. But started working out twice a day to counter it. In the best shape of my life.ย

Started doing yoga 4-5 times a week. Helps get away from the screen in the evening and calm the mind. Also less back pain as I sit down during the majority of the day otherwise.

I've always worked remotely, but have missed being on the road. I get it. Some days you're perfectly fine, other days can feel frazzled and anxious AF.ย  One tiny thing that helps me is to actually schedule 5 minute breaks throughout the day on my calendar. This reminds me to stand up, get up, and stop looking at a screen. It's a small task, but it helps keep me sane.ย

And bourbon. Yeah, bourbon.ย

I've been trying to put a dent in the hours and hours of books in my Audible library knowing damn well I wasn't gonna listen to most of them, rewatched all of Dawson's Creek because it is just so pure, sobbed uncontrollably between meals containing a heafty helping of my feelings, and consuming all the DC Comics content there is on HBO Max... Also, therapy.ย

We actually had the option of going back to the office last June so I've been working in-office and remote.ย  I sympathize with my fellow savages that have been homebound the entire year!

Bought a wahoo kickr and signed up for zwift, set it up on my balcony overlooking the city, itโ€™s been great! Aside from that, took short trips, stayed at some awesome airbnbs. Started cooking more and have also bought an adult colouring book, itโ€™s a very zen activity

This time last year I was taking for granted going out with friends, and going to movies. But the shutdowns, albeit challenging actually make me realise Iโ€™m tired of making people rich. Which out needing to go to the office daily I had time to work on a project of mine I put to the side. However, I am social person so this lack of interaction is killing me.ย

I have been working from home for 9 years now, so from that regards no different. Biggest change is having the kids hat home now 3 days a week. It's ROUGH trying to work with 3 kids under 4, but now the wife and I are in a routine and schedule. Can't wait for this to end though 100%. Been working out at home everyday at noon; also have built a "ride home" type break going from the office upstairs to dad duty downstairs. Helps with the mental stress and shift.

I started a new role early 2020, so I've been using this time to focus up, learn as much as I can, and start moving towards my goals., So far, so good. We have private offices, so I don't have to work from home which is nice - my apartment is not set up from that and frankly, working from home permanently isn't my jam. Sue me, I'm an extrovert and like the interaction.

I have taken a big step back from social media, news, and politics and am instead focusing on reading (both sales lit and other literature of interest,) staying active, focusing on hobbies. I deleted Instagram a long time ago but I deleted Facebook this year and no longer use Reddit other than for the odd informational post and it has improved my mental health and productivity tenfold. Highly recommend.

Getting out of the Bay Area while taking full advantage of Work From Anywhere has been amazing. Currently i'm in Boise, ID. Skiing multiple times a week (35 minute drive to Bogus Basin), finally back in the gym which has always been my therapy and stress reliever.ย

Speaking of Therapy, I am a firm believer in it. Throughout the pandemic, it was nearly impossible to find a therapist through my insurance. That all changed when I found BetterHelp. It is a great site with great therapists that are always there for you to message between sessions and my therapist will randomly check in on me which I have never had happen in the past.ย

Moved out of the city, went up the north shore. Going to be a lot different if I have to venture back to the office. I know it is coming but, being on the beach and living that life is lovely.ย

Hobbies have been key, got back into guitar and decided it wasย  time to figure out how to build shit. Swing a hammer and hope for the best!!ย

I, like you, have also been going stir crazy and I get so restless in my small apartment every single day. I used to think that meditation was bogus, but after persistent encouragement by a friend to download the Headspace app, I've found that meditation has been an amazing and powerful tool for getting into the right mindset. Yes, this situation sucks, but at the same time, we can only control what we can control, so I really try and channel my mental game in that direction. Every morning before I look at a single work email, I start my day with 10-45 minutes on the Headspace app and have found it seriously benefits my mood and productivity throughout the day!ย

I became a plant lady (and plant murderer to some). I also randomly stumbled up on free weights at costco a few weeks back which has helped me get back to a regular workout routine to burn off all the weight I've gained from also gaining a baking hobby this pandemic. '_'

Excellent question and topic bud.
Started wfh last March thought it would be a breeze and hit a mental rock bottom over the summer. Gained 25lbs and my mind wasnโ€™t right. Made a change started reading running and working out. Made it a daily routine. Dropped 45lbs. Took PTO went camping and hiking in the woods for 2 weeks to meditate (fish smoke fatties and shoot off 5000 rounds). Now once this is all behind us Iโ€™m coming out of it a way better man than when it started!ย
