Got fired for performance issue

At company less than 5 months fired for performance issues.

When asking friends on what I do on LinkedIn for job status some people said keep your current job as present so there is no questions why no longer working and say why I'm looking culture different direction, employees getting fired including leadership which actually did happen. Some plausible typical explanation

Or I'm hedging to go with Open to work badge and say looking for my next opportunity to get the word out.

If and when asked if ever been fired or why no longer there I'd say

This is the real reason btw.

Unfortunately, during that time I had significant challenges in my personal life that I needed to address. I allowed those problems to affect my professional life and performance at work. However, being let go gave me the time to seek support and overcome those challenges, so I am now prepared to fully devote myself to my work.

Whoa sales cowboy. You keep going in this direction you’ll soon be eating your young.

1. Nobody will ever know that your employment was terminated for any reason. HR departments will not give that information up.

2. The “Open to Work” badge of shame is you screaming you were removed from office. It’s a useless scarlet letter. Do you really think there’s a talent search anywhere that starts with recently unemployed folk?

So, cut it out. Lick your wounds. Go get a job. Leave the LinkedIn profile alone. You’ve got a window where you can look like you still work there.

My best intuition tells me your resume might better serve as birdcage liner. Feel free to anonymize it and post it in this forum for help.

How long is the window where you can still put present on LinkedIn? It'll be two months since I got canned. Obviously in my actual resume, I have the stated end month there

LinkedIn is your personal property. You can use President of the United States of America in there. It's the resume you might want to start talking around.

"You know, I just left. I hadn't seen my {family member/personal anatomical part} in a year and it was not going to get easier."

Or, you could tell the truth, but who does that when job searching?

You can set your linkedin to "open to work" without putting the badge on.

I wouldn't touch your LI. If anyone asks, just say that you're not a big social media person.

As far as your story for why you left, I'd say something like "it wasn't what I was sold" or "the culture there did not match my level of professionalism" or something similar. Or you could say you were downsized due to the economy - lots of that right now.

Definitely don’t change your job status, if asked just say you still work there. The odds are so slim of anyone digging.
