Gotta love the shit leadership pulls

I have a large opp im working on right now. REALLY close to getting this done.

There is an integration that they want to do that is brand new to the industry. We have the whole thing scoped out and CAN complete it and have large customers lined up to do this but the projects are not complete yet.

My CCO told them that we have live clients with this integration (this was before the deal was handed to me of course)

Now that we have to have meetings around it, he no longer wants to be involved.

Of course he has forced himself into every meeting up to this point.

Anyone else deal with this shit???

I dont know what relationship you have in the company but if its solid I would force the issue and push it. Personally i would call them out and ask them to come up with the back story or solution or just to own up and admit to the client there was some "minor differences"

Its not your job to cover the shit created by your CCO

yeah what ive decided on, is if he wont come into this call then he isnt coming into any further calls.

Hopefully ill be able to work around this but removing him from the deal and being SUPER aware of this going forward is a must.

Leaders like to get themselves involved, then they realise they HAVE TO WORK now. Thatโ€™s when they chicken out. I have dealt with this too.

One thingโ€™s for sure. The CCO ainโ€™t coming back in this one. Can you find someone else who can support you? Someone with a backbone perhaps?

Dang, is the CCO providing any support at all? At least pushing hard for discounts or alignment still?

Hopefully the CCO thought there were live clients at the time and didnt just lie

im getting more clarification tomorrow but i think he told them we had a client live, with the expectation that they WOULD be live soon. then that project got pushed out

That's not as bad as I had thought. Still an ill-advised thing to say. Could have mentioned there was already a project underway slated to go live soon, or something.

Wow, that's pretty unethical. I watch my leadership go out of their way to be very careful what we state, promise, etc. so that we're not in a bind downroad when the hands are called. I'm surprised your sales leadership didn't call him out on it.

Are you able to work around this?

the crazy part if he is the sales leadership haha.

The longer I have been in this role the more I realize he doesnt always know how to handle these situations because he just doesnt know. So now ive had to stop relying on him to learn things and go to other ppl.

Yeah, for sure I wouldn't be inviting him to customer calls. Who knows what he'll say next time.

I'd ask your boss how he wants this dealt with and then toe the company line here. Make sure internally your ass is covered.

Have a honest sidebar with your champion and ask her advice. It is amazing how many times this happens and if you have a good relationship, prospects will work with you if you have a good plan to solve their issue.

is really is the way to go. normally Im a huge fan of just talking it out. I do not have as a solid relationship with this team as I would hope. but I have a meeting on monday to talk things through so we will see how it goes.

Depending on your rapport with CCO, just leverage them to get someone who will be more useful. If the CCO "assigns" someone to takeover their role in the eval, it likely will get done for you

That's some shady shit right there.
