LinkedInfluencers- Love 'em or hate 'em?

My company has been making a push recently for all of us to be more active on LinkedIn and I cannot think of something I would like to do less.

Don't get me wrong, if you feel fulfilled walking down the street holding your phone up and giving sales advice via a selfie-video, more power to you. But I hate doing shit like that and refuse to become one of those people.

So my question to the War Room is, LinkedInfluencers- do you like them, hate them, or are you one? And if you are, what am I missing?

LinkedInfluencers, what's the deal?

U new here? ;)

Nobody in here likes LI influencers, it's one of the main reasons this community was created.

If a company wants to advertise online, they can pay their marketing staff to run business pages and campaigns. My LI page is not company property and I wasn't hired to do marketing, so they can fuck all the way off with those kinds of requests.

Correction:

This community was started under the faรงade of creating a "better, anonymous" LNKD, but the reality is that the intention all along was actually to garner enough interest in this niche so that Bravado could jam their other products down our throats in a feeble attempt to monetize their true intentions.ย ย

Unless you're selling to sellers this is a waste of time. If you are selling to sellers, it's still a waste of time. Why would I care what some random wannabe influencer says? How would I even find you? If you look at the Gongs of the world the overwhelming interaction with their posts are from their peers, not prospects. Circle jerk at its finest.

Yeah that is my other issue with it in general- some of them are actual experts in their field and have some knowledge to offer, but most of them are just trying to become the next best thing without actually having what it takes. Either from knowledge/skills or just general experience. You can't become an influencer with 2 years of sales on your resume unless you're a savant.ย

I don't understand what the actual benefit is - you aren't actually famous and I don't feel that anyone believes you're more credible just b/c you make videos.

Am I wrong? Do the sheep (prospects/plebs/suckers) feel differently? Obviously we are all going to think like skeptical degenerates we've been carved into but if talking parables into my phone like I'm some bald son of a sales god will actually increase my revenue I'd think about it...I just don't feel that is the way the world works...but maybe I don't have a clue.

Nah I don't think it is the way the world works either. I think it is a fad that people will be embarrassed to have been a part of in a couple years.

I am on a similar boat, the company asking me to be active in that shit hole I use to do prospecting. From an AMB perspective, it is good to post useful content, have an opinion, and leave the breadcrumbs of knowledge. I am fine with that but don't ever expect to see me going all Gong, and in case you do, you have my permission to put me down (trip to Switzerland included).

TBH, today, Kyle Coleman is the one and only putting in real work into building a legit brand that ain't cringy. If you must, follow his path and don't try to mimic gong or gray vee.

Unpopular opinion here after reading all the comments but here goes:
Iโ€™ve learned a lot from some of these โ€œinfluencersโ€ but others are annoying.
For me, if Iโ€™m going to post on LinkedIn it needs to be giving me:
A) more pipeline leading to closed won deals
B) creating opportunities for me to make more income whether that be side gigs or further career opportunities.
Just my 2 cents

That is completely fair and I live by similar rules. I am not just posting to LI for likes and views.

And I agree they aren't all bad, but there are so many of them creating a lot of noise that it is hard to find the genuinely good ones.

Yes, the LinkedInfluencer is awful. However, I think there is a way to be active on LI without being that obnoxious. Be consistent and intentional in your posting, bring value and engage with the people you're connected to. I'm a full cycle AE and have scheduled many appointments and closed a few deals from LI interactions and content!

There are some LinkedIn influencers that have good content and actionable takeaways.

You just have to be smart and remember who they are selling too might not always fit your ICP or target market. A lot of their content is selling to sales companies when you might not be so their insights might not translate. Also need to make sure you seeing if it's an actual topic they are trying to help you with or a company sponsored video highlighting a possible vendor to use.
