Head of Sales compensation(Salary, com, ESOPS)

Hey guys,

I am being promoted for a head of sales position. This is somethong new for me especially when it comes to ESOP plans and I do not know how much I can negotiate. I sale recruitment services for clients abroad(mainly USA market, company is base in central Europe). They offered:

- base salary $39k (it should be around $52k considering this position, but I have only 4 years of experience in sales, this is SMB(35ppl on-site) and executives like me and want me to excel),

- OTE - it's 50/50 uncapped so something around $80k (with smaller base),

- 2,5% ESOP achievable within 3 years, service agency, $1.1 mln in revenue so it's evaluation is around $3-4.5 mln. for now.

Let me know what you think and if this is something interesting or I'm jus being ripped.

For now I have a team of SDR and AE that I'm managing but we are expanding and it should be up to 5 ppl fast. Should I then negotiate to get a commission based on their performance?

What I should do

I can't speak to your local market, but that seems VERY low for a HoS position.

Negotiate everything and gain some experience or look elsewhere.

I think many of us are shocked in US terms, but it looks like OP is in Poland, so a whole other story.

It looks like the salaries there are indeed relatively much lower (everything is relative), and it appears that the offer they're getting is not bad compared to the average, at least reported on Glassdoor.

The company would likely point to the same type of numbers as to why they are offering this... personally, the best negotiation point might be additional accelerators and incentives if you hit above quota. That can be where you make big bucks.

When you say 2.5% ESOP, are you saying that you are eligible for 2.5% of the company's shares? That is a ton! That could also be your huge upside assuming the company survives and does well.
