Hitting personal income goals- continued.

Great post @tennisandsales. Congrats on breaking through! You inspired one of my own.ย

To me, money doesnโ€™t answer any lifetime happiness or serenity questions. But when you donโ€™t have any, itโ€™s the only fucking answer.ย

A step further on this thought: When you hit your personal income goal, what do you do next? Do you set another one? Itโ€™s a weird thing sometimes to โ€œget all the way there.โ€ I have to immediately reset at each plateau. If I donโ€™t, it feels like Iโ€™ll drop off a cliff into some kind of income void induced empty hell.ย

And each time it happens I have to do a gut check that goes like this: I now have the ability to make different life choices. Should I now: Stay in better hotels? Dine at better restaurants? Eat organic food? Better car? Join a country club? make monthly donations to lonely cats? And with those choices comes the mandatory explanations/debates/arguments with wife unit. ย

Then the balancing act starts. How much does this shit really mean? Then- I set a new goal, refocus, and go again. it's a sales life. It ain't bad.ย

I heard some say โ€œmoney doesnโ€™t buy happiness, but lifeโ€™s a lot easier when donโ€™t donโ€™t have to worry about being able to pay your billsโ€. Thatโ€™s basically my goal.

When I first joined sales, I sat and listened to the top rep on a ride along. It was such a great experience. I asked how did money change him, and he said it just makes life so much easier. The small things add up. For example, he said when he goes to a restaurant he doesnโ€™t have to fret on the bottle of wine his wife wants to order.

Obviously be careful of lifestyle creep, but the peace of mind is really nice.

Bet he was sweating the cost of the wine his girlfriend was ordering for her wine cellar in the house he was paying for.

Cats don't care about your donations.

That said, I like not having to worry about money. If I'm at that point, I'm good. I was at the home of someone with ridiculous money a couple of weeks ago. The kind of home that has a pool, mini golf course, a basketball court, outdoor kitchen, pool room, acreage, indoor theater, and is immaculate and huge. It was lovely and impressive, and I realized I didn't need that (personally) but not having to worry about paying bills or if I could take a trip on the spur of the moment is huge.
Nothing wrong with figuring out what kind of liquidity you need to be able to fund the lifestyle you want.

Cats are such stinkers, but we love them. :)

Easy to explain love for a child. A cat? Totally counterintuitive. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Theyโ€™re entertaining. Occasionally loving. Frequently unpredictable. One of mine finally figured out how to hunt and brings me voles, out of concern for my lack of hunting skills.

Itโ€™s because they donโ€™t give unconditional love that we value their attention and regard when we get it. Itโ€™s earned.

Yeah, butโ€ฆ โ€œout of concern for my lack of hunting skillsโ€ might be the best explanation yet. They willingly accept human-assigned characteristics they arenโ€™t even smart enough to contemplate with their brains that are always smaller than a hockey puck.

LOL, I always laugh that the cats have walnut-sized brains in those tiny little skulls.

As you break various barriers it take more zeros to make you blink.

In your teens and early 20s $100 is a lot of money and gives you pause.

Fast forward and that new $1000 iPhone stings but a $150 dinner is nothing.

Soon youโ€™ll drop $1200 at Costco and donโ€™t blink, but the idea of putting $12k down on a new car stops you in your tracks.

Before you know it your credit card bill is $15k a month and you just pay it off. Now amazingly it takes 6 figures to have you pause. ๐Ÿคฏ

love it. its gone like this for me:

first 5 years of my career had dreams of making a shit ton of money and instead, went into massive debt. then when i got into saas it was just about crawling out.
My wife and i aligned on our goals: - pay off debt- save money - save more money - do fun things
Every time our income increased we worked towards those goals.
When money really started to come in we were able to do fun things AND save money at the same time. that was where the fun really happens.

Now we can think to the future and make sure we have all our bases covered so we NEVER end up where we started.

I guess my personal income goal is more of a money in the bank goal. I want to get to a point where my passive income/interest generated will equal a comfortable salary to retire. Iโ€™ve set that goal to be $160,000 secured, which, without debt and some minor bills, leaves for a very nice lifestyle to basically buy and do whatever I want.

Buying freedom essentially. With that income, I can do whatever kind of hobby business I want.
