How do you cope with a thunder buddy leaving you for another opportunity?

90% of me is happy for my friends. 10% is selfish and tired of good people leaving our company.

All in all though, I must recognize that moving on to another opportunity whether it does end up good or bad is a big step and it takes some serious courage/bravery. The premise of that has me fired up for them as well because operating in the unknown is without a doubt where growth lies.

I'll get over it eventually, but wanted to know some strategies behind how to deal. Pint of ice cream, crying in the shower, screaming in your car, staring out at the ocean aimlessly while the wind blows through your hair, etc? Lemme know.

Wish them well and mean it.  Then keep in touch and get drinks, dinner, lunch or whatever else as often as you can.

That's bittersweet as we all want our friends to succeed, but then you're missing them in your work life.
I don't have too much advice for this but one of my good work friends just left this month. I've been just focusing more on current projects and future goals.

Just know that you’ll see them out of work. I have that worry but I know fully well it will be fine, organise stuff with them.

That’s one of the hardest parts about the work life is losing your work buddies at the office. Good news is that there is always weekends. Keep in touch and make a point to hang out frequently. If your offices are close by you can always meet up after work for drinks. Everything will work out!

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
You're going to leave. Visualize that happy day.

Also, pint of ice cream and staring out at the ocean aimlessly sounds like a great day to me.

As someone who worked for a big corp for 10 years... I was also in the same mental place as you. Great people leaving in droves. On one hand, you have the familiarity and history of working at the same company.  However,  you're lacking in several other areas such as compensation, growth, exposure, and leadership.  Once I finally got over my fears and left big corp, it was a eureka moment for me.  I got hired for a senior position at another company and I immediately knew I made the right choice. Now I look back and my naive hesitance and I regret the time I lost because of it.  No matter what... always bet on yourself.
