How do you deal with a coworker you can't stand?

It's incredible how much this person aggravates me and we're remote.

Since you’re remote, it’s very simple: ignore them. Mute their slacks. Drift into space when the speak on meetings, etc.

Alternately, practice radical candor and challenge then directly. However, I will say that we often find others infuriating because they are a reflection of what we don’t like about ourselves.

Appreciate the advice. The reason I do not like him is that he poached my account after I told him not too, asked for more of my accounts, and has been unapologetic.

Ah - but he has stopped poaching accounts?

That's a WIN.

Now ignore him, but watch for additional sneaky behavior.

This is a problem with a specific solution: rules of engagement. Slap them with a manager and a tandem slap from RevOps. All revenue generated from these actions should be credited to you. Fuck splitting the commissions.

You're both remote and you're asking this? At least he's not the guy who goes to his truck every day at lunch and smokes a giant cigar and then sits next to you the rest of the day in the sales cubicles ( oh wait...that was me who suffered that).

I would just chill. There's going to be plenty of people in your life you can't stand. If you only have to look at this person's face a few minutes per day on a computer screen - count yourself blessed.

What are the details? How is this person annoying? If you can provide a little more about what’s going on, maybe there’s some specific advice that can be given. My usual is “avoid, ignore, don’t respond” but that’s pretty vague and may not cover what’s happening.

I just ignore them. There are a few where I work and all they like to do is complain.

Stop letting them live rent-free in your head. Just avoid them and move about your day.

Like others have said just ignore them, especially since you are remote. I work remotely as well, I have more than enough to focus on each day to worry about other people's BS.

Since you're remote it's easy, simply ignore the tool. But, if you know the mailing address, send a turd-in-a-box or bag 'o dicks to the house. If he's still poaching, escalate it with documented evidence.

What is so aggravating about this person?
I suppose try opening up that hey for you it feels like this

I get in trouble sometimes because I am very direct and task oriented and then I am told it is rude and then I try to work in a different way with that person

@BTQ You haven't dealt with that yet? You need to either get a manager involved or have a direct convo with this guy.

My manager got involved gave him a strike and I had a direct convo with him where he didn't apologize.

I just can't stand his face idk.

Keep documenting it. Keep sending it to your manager. That does sound hellish

Oh, it's this jerk. Yeah, I commented below that it's a win if the behavior stopped.

Basically, I'd look at his face and just smile....you got him, and he's on management radar. You're the winner here. It's like having a virtual trophy head on your wall.

Like @poweredbycaffeine said, sometimes it’s how you feel about your own shortcomings that’s the problem. And when you see the same thing in someone else, you’re much less sympathetic towards them for it because self-love is a given. Why else would u not stand someone VIRTUALLY? Took me a while to understand this about myself. But hey, this may not apply to you at all, and maybe they’re just plain douchie or ignorant - in that case just decrease your interaction with them to a level where it’s impossible to care. Cheers

What is their role?
Are they on the same team as you?
Do they support you in some way?

If you need them to be successful or they support your clients, you will need to figure out a way to communicate with them.

Also, how is this person aggravating you?
Talking over you in meetings?
Stealing your spotlight?

There are ways to deal with this and you can learn from it.
