How late is too late to receive a comp plan?

Started my new job at the beginning of May and still have not received a comp plan. Come to find out this morning in my one on one with my manager that its still being worked on, and I did have a quota last quarter which I was unaware of.

3 months feels way too late to receive a comp plan, but how long generally is too late?

If it doesn't come before I put my two-weeks notice in, its late.

I would think 3 months is way too late, but based on the experiences I have seen from other savages, it seems right in line with what others experience

That sounds really late - and honestly sounds like they have a massive communication problem in general. Who isn't told about a quota?

It's been weird tbh especially since my manager didn't know I had quota until today for Q2 and what the breakdown was. All around just a shitshow for communication.

Your manager also wasn’t told? That’s just crazy.

Secret quota systems. This is cool. Does it come before or after the secret PIP. Can you collect secret unemployment?

So you have a quota, unbeknownst to you, but havent received your plan. Sounds pretty shady.

I've seen long waits for revamped comp plans, but for a job you just started this is messed up

How are you under a quota and have no clue? They can fire you for saying you didn't hit a quota you were unaware existed.

So many shady employers out there. Plus some that are just disorganized.

Hard to aim for something when you don’t know what the target is

A shady sign among a couple others I've seen but also incredibly disorganized. It's like telling someone to fly a plane who hasn't even gone to flight school.

Agree with you here, you'd think they would have it set and stone before day 30

I would imagine that there would be a plan when they bring you in. How do you know what quota is? This just seems off on so many levels

It has been off, feel like I've been flying blind ever since training, and now knowing my quota for the year or what it's going to be, I now have to go find 20 deals (give or take) between now and end of year to hit.

I’m assuming the sales cycle is longer than a couple of weeks, so that would be messed up. Need to negotiate a ramp, or a stay, until the end of the year.
Long story short - your boss fucked you, and not in a way you would want.

The point in time that a company assigns a quota to your name is when you should have a comp plan.

3 months is too late. Is it just you in the company having this issue?

I think so, I'm not aware of any other reps having this issue.

My last job, it wasn't until month 4 that we got a comp plan. Everything we sold under the old "inadequate" comp plan, we never got paid for. In hindsight, it was a sign of deeper problems with the company.

Ive waited 4 months before but granted at the time I was a BDR but it was still bullshit and no excuse. Especially because the rest of sales got theirs late but not 4 months, more like 2-3 months. If it takes that long you know most likely its a shit comp plan or theres some bullshit in there to fuck you over. IMO

Terrible, not sure how sales leaders get to keep their jobs running a team like that.

Totally agree, let alone ensure confidence in reps that if they close deals, they'll get comp'd appropriately

The quota part is WEIRD. If the comp plan isn’t clear that’s one thing… but being measured against something you didn’t know about is some deep whackness.

You should receive your comp plan, before you join or max a week after you join. This sounded late.
Did you post an update on this by any chance?

Have not posted an update but they gave it to me about a week after I posted this. They did update the quota to fit for q3 and 4 only but still, having that comp plan drag out for 3 months was not fun.

If the comp plan hasn't been laid out crystal fucking clear before I start, then I aint starting. Call me old fashioned.
