How to address this?

I've been in my role as an sdr for about 6 months. I'm now looking at other opportunities because the environment at my org is kinda figure it out on your own. We are now focusing heavily on outbound without any guidance or direction. Our monthly quota has doubled. Manager wants us to do mass outreach for the sake of activity, of course its not working.

It's so much other shit I can add but that will take a day to explain.

I have a interview coming up and would like to know how to address my decision to move elsewhere without coming across as bad mouthing.

Unable to experiment and use creativity to achieve goals. Role has changed significantly. Focus on administrative tasks v selling. I want to make money! I'm hungry for an opportunity that is going to give me every possible chance to do so.

Your first paragraph said a lot... It can be explained in a professional way without sounding bitter or bad mouthing. If your current position is not good for you and your family, then that can be easily explained. You gave your company multiple chances to improve, they did not, so you made the sacrifice to do what is best for you.

What Fenderbaum said OR look for a positive with the company you're looking for: "I've been looking for an opportunity to work with (company a) because (good reason here about what's interesting about it for you). I bring self-starter experience and a desire to work intelligently to increase the company bottom line. In my current company, I am driving (x metric success) through my diligence, and have (contributed these positive outcomes) . I'm looking forward to working at (company a) and further honing my skills."

Or similar.

That's what I was trying to say but I haven't taken my meds yet. ๐Ÿ˜›

That's what she said! And you should say just that. If you want a kicker for a little bit of flare, you can tell them you'd like license to innovate in order to solve.

Your approach isnโ€™t a bad response to โ€œwhy are you leaving your current company?โ€. Itโ€™s just a challenge to tread lightly while explaining a screwed up situation. I just recommend leading with why you want the new position rather than why you want to leave the current one.

"The job is fun, and I enjoy my work. At this stage of my career, I am also seeking mentorship from my seniors, something which seems to be missing in my current organization due to a lack of experienced seniors in the team"

You are looking for structure, career guidance, and a measure of "we know what the fuck we are doing".

Companies want to hear that you are interested in developing as a professional and not as a firefighter...which sadly is what most Pre-Seed to Series B companies end up serving up to their xDR roles.

If they cannot offer that, they'll tell you up front.

Sounds familiar ๐Ÿ˜‰. Tell them that their methodology is dumb and doesnโ€™t work so you canโ€™t succeed and the quotas are unreasonable. If they are professional they will take feedback and do a reality check and it will help those you leave behind

If you need your hand held that much, perhaps Sales isnโ€™t right for you. Like 90% of selling is โ€œmaking it up as you go alongโ€.

Now of the org is is in a death spiral trying to milk everything last drop outta you before you quit in frustration, thatโ€™s another issue entirely.

Regarding an interview, you can say that you gave it 6months but youโ€™re not a fit for their culture. Be ready to define the culture in a bit too negative way.

You are kind of handling it the best way possible, additionally if you guys as a team do what they ask in terms of mass emailing and show them that the results are shit then you go ahead and present a better solution and why it will work then you have a case.

This is such a lame, but common occurrence. I wonder why managers and c-suite think this ever works.

Ah ghee, just double quotas and give them absolutely no resources to succeed.

The way I will always phrase it is "Saw the recruiter reach out/Stumbled on the job posting, and seems like too good of a company not to through my hat in due to (value1, value 2,and value 3)

So its not negativity from your current role, but the new company is just so much better in these ways which you value

Look sales roles are always challenging. You can proceed further attending interviews but don't tell any negative points of company or leadership(it gives bad impression on your personality). It better to say other reason like looking for better opportunity.

The way you've explained it in the post is good enough and simple ,also you can add up that your quota was increased for no reason and there was lack of planning and guidance for approaching prospects and they'll understand!
