How to discus concerns in the interview process.

Short and sweet, looking for a new job.

Talked to the top rep in the company after realizing something. Usually top reps shoot me straight. they point out the good/bad but also some strategies to move through the muck. Not in this instance.

The leaders of the company are convinced that what we sell (Tax credit advisory services) have no real competition and no arguments against anyone taking them....leading to unrealistic expectations.

She not only gave it to me straight about the good/bad but also stated that the company doesnt value her opinion.

A few months ago, the hiring manager that brought me on (new to the industry and company himself) showed me the ramp numbers for the 4 reps before me.

All of them with in a month were averaging bringing in to the company 1.5-2x their salaries (assuming they are close to mine) if not more.

Things have slowed down and lots has changed over last and the 4 months I have been here.... and the leadership says that their sales crew just isnt trying hard enough....

Id imagine most sales managers would be thrilled if their team was bringing in 2-4x their salaries every month for 12-24 months.

I share this because I wonder if others think what I explained here is par for the course or if my concerns are legitimate. What other considerations, etc.

One company I looked at and have interviews with is an inside sales gig (outside sales currently), I know some will dig at me for that here.

One thing I noticed on the job posting after my initial phone screening was that it lists in essence,

Gotta be okay with 60hr weeks, working weekends, blah blah blah.

I told the phone screener that I am not interested in being the guy who gives a company 50+hrs a week on any regular basis because I got a family and I cant get the time back. Especially if they decide to dump me at some point for reasons.

I plan to tell the CEO today on the call for a second interview but the gal who screened me said nothing when I told her that.

Do you think they just post that for some PC sort of reason, specific ways I should go about asking that sort of question?

I appreciate the time and insight you all share.

None of this sounds desirable. Why you gonna jump from urinal to toilet? Find something you want to sell and fight for it.

A-fucking-men.

If they're putting that in writing, IN THE JD, it's just the tip of the iceberg.

both companies are major red flags to me. I wouldn't be happy at neither. You need to be willing to walk away from potentially bad situations before they happen.

**IF** you need a job now, take what you can. But keep looking.

I think you choosing your family is the smartest move. You should tell the CEO this too There will be other jobs.

Just wondering why an inside sales position would need that much time dedicated.

Iโ€™ve worked long weeks and had to fly out on weekends if there was a meeting I had to make that was on a Monday or something. But thatโ€™s the exception. If the goal of the question is to find out if youโ€™re rigid, ok I suppose, but it sounds like unrealistic expectations and that theyโ€™re setting you up to be available when you shouldnโ€™t be.

Is the other job otherwise ok, or are there additional red flags?

By other job, I think you mean the current job?
I don't feel comfortable in the long term of the company's potential.
I think they feel like they are a big fish and about to blow when in reality there are tons of those out there that do what they do and I don't think people are hurting with their current situation enough to consider changing to us.

Had a follow-up interview with the new company and they said that yes typically plan to work 40 hours but the challenge is that their closers get about 10-15+ warm leads expecting calls daily and each call could take 45min in total to move forward so if you do the math, you can easily see how they need to "catch up" on various things throughout the day if all the leads are answering.

Essentially the OT is one being in charge of your pipeline, following up to ensure you hit numbers outside of your calls.

The OT sounds like I structure it if needed, If I am hitting numbers, no need but if I am behind, expect to dig in.

Thoughts on the culture and Mindset, I mean I get where they are coming from, and reasonable in some ways but its in the B to C stage if I recall hearing correctly.

No, apologies, I meant the potential new job. Other than the strange demand to own more of your time than probably necessary - but you explained that.
Do you actually get paid OT? I know some inside roles are set up that way.

I think it is a straight-salary gig.
The idea being the OT is spent catching up, getting to goal.
Set the goal in such a way as to hit it is all the money you want.
They also have bragged that most opt out of salary with in 3 months for total commission because they see they can make more if they go the 100 commission route.
