I'm Struggling Out Here In The Streets..........

I've been with my new company for about 5 months now and it's a new space for me, SAM (Software Asset Management) / ITAM (IT Asset Management). I was the 1st person they hired for sales and I started from ZERO, no marketing/SEO, a not so updated list of prospects in our CRM. My bosses tell me I'm way ahead of the game in my knowledge but the struggle is real and it's tough in the streets. The guys are telling me I'm doing everything right and my messaging is good, I don't have a marketing background but I can hold my own. I've set some pretty good meetings so far but I need more and I'm racking my brain day in and day out trying to figure out what these people will care about. Since it's just me I don't have much to collab with so, maybe my fellow savages can help with some feedback and insight with some things that might be working that I can try fit it with my audience. Thoughts, concerns?

I'm unfamiliar with SAM or ITAM, so I'm sorry I can't shed any light on specifics.

Are you still the only rep at the company?

Yup just me. SAM/ITAM is basically managing all the software licenses, cloud optimization and audit defense. I will say since they handed over the keys to the list/CRM, I've sent 1000's of emails and 0 real responses, it shows emails are bring opened and clicked. I know a lot are false positives but I do see them being opened and clicked multiple times but zero conversations. It's never been this bad for me and it's starting to mess with me a bit.

Sounds like the value prop isn't there for the recipients of the message. Do you have the why this solution/why now? message clear?

Other than that, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Weโ€™re working on that too, so far the messaging has been good but thatโ€™s me.

Are the 1000s emails you sent, just one template email sent to everybody or this is a targeted approach?

I'm not familiar with your particular industry but based on the comments in this thread, the approach seems a bit "scattered"

The ITAM market is saturated with big boys (ServiceNow and Flexera most notably). Maybe see how they are marketing SAM (or try to leverage your experience to a gig there)

Sit down with the founders again and ask why they made this product. What was the original intent? Is there an early adopter or 1st customer you can talk to and understand why they signed up?

Do you have paying customers? If so figure out if there is a common theme, i.e. an industry where you have customers. Then zoom in on that industry and make it your niche and focus only that industry. Talk to the existing customers and figure out why they chose you and what problems you solve for them. Then build your messaging around that. We are the xyz for the abc industry we are experts in this niche and here are the typical industry specific problems we solve for our customers.

We donโ€™t sell a tool, or software. Any company that has 5k+ employees and over $500 million in rev is our industry.

Got it, but itโ€™s still much better to find your niche and focus on that. Donโ€™t try to be everything to everybody because you end up being nothing to nobody. People want to work with someone whoโ€™s is an expert in their field.

As a marketing expert I tell you the following information:

1.- Try to understand your market, many times we think we know our clients but it is not.

2.- Identify their problems and how your product and service can help them solve the problem that affects them

3.-Customer service! retention, offering good service will make your customers feel important and valued and they will be more receptive when you want to offer them a product.

4.-There are relatively cheap channels, try by creating a database, for example by placing name, email, phone number and what they bought or what service they purchased, so if a promotion comes out in a service that they purchased , you can send the promotion to customers who you know might be interested or offer them special discounts for their loyalty.
