Internal promo interview

I am a BDR whose been eligible for promotion for 5 months. It was my choice to wait for a position to open up on a certain team, because it's the only one that comes with a base pay increase (sounds crazy but true...). Because of this fact, there are several other great BDRs interested in the same team.

Well, the time has finally come!! There is 1 seat open and I was chosen along with several others to interview for the seat.

I need to articulate my value and find a way to stand out from other great candidates. I have already been networking with the team and leadership, and presented an account review to the hiring manager (not required, but the RVP suggested I do this as a way to gain a leg up, so I did).

I want this SO bad...

If you could give me 1 piece of advice to ace this interview... what would it be?

First off - lots of great advice on this throughout the forum. Do a search on it.

It sounds like you’ve already done what you can do and now you’re just second guessing yourself. So don’t overthink it.

One thing to keep in mind though - if you’d gone for a promotion onto a different AE team, how much more would you have been making in that position from commissions than where you are now? So if you don’t get the promo, that’s something to consider.

Good luck!

Any other team would be the same base, with more commission potential. So while I ramp (unless I was able to close something very quickly) I would be making significantly less, and would be at risk of not paying my bills.

Focus on about what you do currently that would make you a great AE. Good luck 🤞

Why you, why now.
It's not about the competition, it's about why you're the best (and only) option.

Lot of good advice here so one other thing I don’t see mentioned… What’s the one thing missing from that team? Do they lack closing experience? Product knowledge? Hustle? Show that

Get an outside-role search going. Being involved in that interview process not only forces you to prepare, it can also give you leverage if you have another offer in hand.
