Interviews

Hey All

I was looking around at the old workplace and career lately and realized I haven't really interviewed in over a year and frankly I'm doing myself a disservice on both practicing and seeing what's out there.

I am happy at my job, but want to stay sharp. what's the best approach to this? I'm concerned about putting an open to work or whatever setting on my LinkedIn since I have navigator through my work (is that an unfounded concern?).

I suppose this is very very basic, but looking for tips at playing the field, without leveraging my personal network since I'm probably not in the space to move unless there an insane offer.

If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands.

I think you’re adding a layer of stress to your existence that does not need to exist. You’ll know when it’s time to sharpen your interview game. Stability is what we all are shooting for. If you’ve got it, please enjoy it. Eliminate any possibility of complacency and do your job well. That’s it. The end.

So funny how we are always waiting for the other shoe to drop when we have good things going.

I feel ya. I have been wondering this myself. So much so I found the following via LinkedIn:

Tap your profile picture > View Profile. Tap the Open to button in your introduction card (at the top of your profile). Provide the requested information in the screen that appears. You can choose whether all LinkedIn members or only recruiters can see that you're open to job opportunities.

Unless you're actually looking to leave don't interview.
You'll end up burning bridges within your network.

Thanks Braintank. I want to do this outside of my network, so I don’t burn any bridges or ask for any favors.

How? Unless leveraging your network to get interviews, I don't see how anyone in your network would know or even care if you were interviewing.

If you ask someone in your network to refer you, but you aren't serious about taking the job and ultimately decline then you've burned that bridge.

That makes sense. I was thinking if you just click apply without being referred.

That's fine, but just make sure it's not a company you'd ever want to work at. At some companies if you decline an offer they'll never make you an offer again.

That's interesting. I never thought about that before. I've also never declined a job offer, so that might be why.

Definitely put on the open for work on LinkedIn. There's an option where it shouldn't be showing it to anyone from the same company as you. The other way is just applying for jobs and filling up forms which I'm too lazy for

dont put open to work on the LinkedIn, just start casually searching it, if you find a job that youre like oh id love to work there go ahead and apply. If you end up getting an interview at a company, and they say why are you looking to leave, say youre not, youre happy where youre at, and that youre just seeing what else is out there and that the company attracted you to apply. who knows you might find a better company with better pay.

just think about what kind of company would make you jump. Follow the pages and check if they have openings. Send a message to previous reqruiters

If you really dont want to leave dont do an interview. Eventually your network bridges will burn.
