Is 10 months to soon to jump companies?

Have a potential AE role, at least interviewing, with other company. Been a BDR for 10 months, not sure if waiting a full year really makes a difference? I know it’s hard to retain sales talent but if I make a move at 10 months, and then this new position turns out to be bad, I could have two short stints on the resume, which will look bad.

Staying at current company does have lead to BDR manager, but I’ve been reading on here some people say AE is better route?

Jumping for an upward move doesn’t have the same stigma as multiple <1 year stints as a BDR. I say if you can basically get a promotion and pay bump moving to a new company...do it.

If I were you I would go for an AE but before that I would like to learn more about the company and the role. This would be by asking any doubtful questions to the hiring manager, HR.. read some reviews, news about the company etc.

Leaving for a promotion at another company after 10 months makes perfect sense. If this were a lateral move there may be some questions.

Doesnt look bad. Why do you think it wouldnt work out taking the AE position? Id be more worried that doubt is already in your mind.

Yeah, I agree.  I'd be digging in more into why there's doubt.  Are you doubting your own ability to perform, or are you unsure about the company/solution/sales leadership...?   A little self-doubt when transitioning to a new role is understandable, but if you're not sure about the company, I'd have some concerns.  However, taking a jump for a promotion does not look bad.

Agree with both of these thoughts. Don’t jump just because they are offering you an AE role. Make sure it’s a really solid company or your going to be starting over again in a year. Taking a new role that’s a step up is never a bad thing.

Moving upward is understandable, I’ve had 4 jobs in 6 years and the majority of places I have interviewed with were in alignment with why I left and didn’t cause a fuss over it. Creating the proper narrative is incredibly important.

I’d take the new job unless BDR management is your goal.

I think moving BDR/SDR to AE is generally a good move and one that time spent at company won’t apply as much. Now if you were jumping BDR to BDR, or even AE to AE within only 10 months, that may look a little questionable. I think you’re safe here.

Take the better job. Even if you fail at it miserably you can probably find another job as a BDR or probably even an AE.

If you want to progress do it. You might not want to though.  After being an AE for 6 years I took a BDR job with above average pay.  Most relaxing two years of my life.  Came in at 8 left at 5 no fuss no muss.

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldn’t be in for very long. They’re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now I’m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldn’t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.
