Is Hardware Dead?

I currently work as a sales executive selling Data Center Hardware/On-Prem Infrastructure (SANs, Servers, Backup Repositories, Hyper-Converged Infrastructure). Some of our biggest competition comes from cloud providers, SaaS, IaaS (infrastructure as a service).

With the growing popularity of the cloud and other hosted consumption models, I’m curious what other IT sales executives think about the longevity of a career selling on-premise hardware? How long will selling DC hardware be a lucrative way for sales savages to make big money?

Interested to hear different opinions and comments!

Love this topic! I’m new to tech and looking at different jobs right now. I currently work at a hardware company selling what you mentioned above, and the more customer/partner calls I am on, the more I want to get out of the DC business. I think SaaS and IaaS will be growing in the coming years and more and more business is taken by the hyperscalers.

Nothing better than your main point of contact being a sales guy. 40-day sales cycle (very short for my industry), I straight up told him I needed this for Q2 and he made it happen. Thank you to the ...
