Is the AM/CS life really less stressful?

After being a top performer for the first year at my company(Over 100% each quarter), Im having a brutal Q4. My company can be ruthless so while it could go either way, I want to be prepared for the worst case scenario. Ive started sending a few feelers out there.

Ive always been curious about the AM/CS life. I know the cieling is lower but if I could find something paying about as much as Im making now but with less stress, I think it could be worth it. But its hard to tell if it truly is less stress and not just a "grass is greener over there" type thing. Has anyone here done both? If so, what are your thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

I went from AE to AM and let me tell you...

It's still sales, it's still stressful, and in fact it may be worse b/c you no longer can say sign here and move on...you have to keep them happy even after an incomplete disco leads to a disastrous implementation.

Sales=Stress, it's why they pay us so much.

Appreciate the insight. My AE role now we get paid on monthly residuals so I feel like I have a worst of both worlds situation right now to keep clients happy. I wonder if an AE job where I could really just move on after they sign would be better for me.

That's what I was thinking. You can't just get done with a company, as long as they are your customer; if you are a CSM.

I have some friends who went from AE to CSM. The consensus I’ve heard from them is that it’s like the AE Role but without the pressure to actually sell and more of a focus on helping customers. They may be biased since they made the role and enjoy it but if you’re down for similar base comp then it seems solid and I’ve been considering the move myslwf

I went AE > CS > SDR (SaaS) > AE and I will say CS was probably my least favorite of the three roles. You don't get to pick when problems come to you, they just do and the customer expects them to go away before you can blink. I much prefer to be on the hunting side of things, prospecting is like a puzzle to me, and helping customers solve big challenges is a lot more rewarding then putting out fires IMO.

I guess they would treat your target on average per year,I don't think that they would go so harsh on you for having

Over 100% each quarter at the first 3 ones IMO!

AM might be worse because you have to maintain the relationship and often if it churns it really hurts you. In CS it is usually less stressful however you’re basically the whipping post for problems and venom from unhappy clients. Basically there’s no winning.

My wife says I live a life of anxiety and stress. I don’t notice it. Is this because it’s not true or because I’m a “seasoned rep”?
