*Job Update*

~~~It is so dead this week that I thought I should give a little update since I have been utilizing this community a lot in the last several months~~~
SUH FAM,
Finally landed a new gig after months of an absolute whirlwind of confusion.
Had to jump ship at an awesome company due to many poor leadership decisions>Landed what I thought was a legit gig but soon realized I made a mistake>Interviewed like crazy>Now landed a position, that on paper, I shouldn't really have.
The new gig is very interesting and I'm an Enterprise AE making almost $100k more OTE than I was 6 months ago. The other AEs on the team are decently older than me so it feels good to be where I am at. I believe I am deserving of this position but on paper, most companies would auto reject me for probably even Mid-Market positions. You could call me the finesse god since I finessed my first SDR role and then my first AE role too. Honestly, I finessed my last two offers also. Not that I lied, but I had to really come in heavy with things that show I am better than people with 6 years of Ent closing experience. So far so good...
Except...
My company is very lax. Almost no sense of urgency with anything. I do enjoy it but I think it is a little too laid back. The part that really hits me is my Director of Sales. Dude is so cool but very inexperienced. I am constantly teaching him things about sales and even ops, marketing, etc. This guy would make an awesome manager but nothing above that.
How do I deal with this? Has anyone else gone through this recently? Specifically, I find it hard to be motivated when the person I report to is not a solid leader. I want the person who is managing me to be lightyears ahead of me. I want to learn and grow. I have a great opportunity to show off to the CEO and within the company but I almost feel bad for the co-founders since they hired a sales leader that is not the right choice. Do I just do my thing and be patient til I'm up next?
Lastly, thank you, savages!!! I've gotten a lot of help from many different resources but the WR is built different ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ . Thank you for all the guidance, kind words, and help in 2022.
Keep your head down, do your job well, and stack your cash. You will need to be employed there as long as possible for the experience to get the same role at another company. Or if you wanna jump I'll take it. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
I would worry about what you can control, otherwise, it's wasted energy.
bust your ass and replace the director of sales role
prove your worth in closing and at the end of year bring it to director of sales see what you did then ask to have the ceo or leadership on that meeting
Sounds like you're driving in the fast lane. You sound mostly happy about this new spot, I wonder if your director will grow to lead your team in the right direction.
Do they have strong tenure?
That's a good description and I feel like I'm in that lane. I hate using imposter syndrome in any context but I feel pretty young to be where I'm at.
I'm iffy on our director growing us. I like the hands off approach but it's VERY hands off. His philosophy is "you'll be fine".
If you're asking in general, no since the company is so new. The director is half a year in. Other AE is the same. And the original founding AE is almost 2 years in.
