Laid off during interview process but didn't disclose - now have an offer

Hey Savages!

So after getting laid off I'm sitting on an offer right now. One company that got in touch with me started talking with me before I was officially laid off. Just before interviewing I got laid off but never told them I was laid off during the process. They never asked so I didn't disclose. When they asked why I'm leaving I told them my current company was unstable and going through layoffs - all of that true.

I'm now going through background checks for the company and worried they'll find out. This all happened within 2 weeks and I've only been laid off for 2 weeks. I was advised that if they don't directly ask if you're still employed then I didn't need to disclose so I didn't. I know they are checking previous employers for title and employment dates but I've never had a company call a current employer - I figure they just ask for a reference or pay stub.

Good news is that I do have a great offer in hand and there aren't any other issues with my resume - I may be off by a month on one job from 3+ years ago since I forgot exactly when I left.

Is this worth even worrying about? They want me to start first week of January and background should already be going or starting next week.

A background check typically looks for red flags with your credit and criminal history. I don’t think you should be worried. All the best in your new role!

Nothing to worry about. They will confirm you worked there that’s about it. Like you said just show a paystub and you are good.

I wouldn't worry. The background check is just to confirm that you actually worked at the companies you listed. I'm pretty sure they don't look into whether you're actually still employed there
