Lay offs strike close to home

Hey folks,

The lay offs hit my company this past week. It wasn't completely unexpected but a large chunk of the team didn't make their number and there's not enough "capacity" for the company with growth slowing down.

for good news I've got some interviews lined up and a couple recruiters who've reached out. If y'all have any tips or advice I'm all wars.

thanks savage

Sorry to hear it. A couple of people of my last job have jumped ship or are planning in the coming month. If you worked with anyone in the past, reach out to them early and often. From there, and partners or resellers that you worked with would be the second level. Then I would hit up contacts that you’ve made and have on LinkedIn.

After you started that route, I would work on local networking events so you can build a pipeline of future contacts.

I’m hear to help out if you need any intros.

I'm sorry friend. This really sucks. Have you filled out a profile on the jobs tab to see who you match up with?

Sorry to hear that. Curious are you looking for more advice on interviewing or finding a new role?

No matter what highly recommend checking out the academy and filling out the jobs profile. If you haven’t yet switch to “actively looking for new opportunities” on LinkedIn. When applying to roles, remember to cut and paste from the description and put it in your resume

With interview, just remember not to say a range first and have them tell you the salary range.

I’m finding a role. Thanks for the interviewing advice, always good to get a refresher. I’m mostly looking for a role that’s not just settling ya know?

So happy to have good interviews lined up. For me - I like to ask a lot of questions about the company, role, performance etc. but when the right time comes and found it very helpful to make the decision when I have to pick 1 from many :)

Absolutely. I’m interviewing wherever they want to talk because I think it’s better to have multiple offers

Sorry to hear about the layoffs. That just sucks. It's not like growth has massively slowed down in most sectors. I firmly believe a lot these layoffs are a way for the companies to get rid of people because they put themselves in a bad financial spot due to overgrowth over the past 2 years and have the ability to blame it on "slowed growth".

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you, but like the others, very glad you have interviews lined up.

There are a lot of tips about interviewing if you search, but in brief: keep it positive, talk about your successes, don't badmouth your previous employer or the situation. Do your best to treat this as an opportunity and a way to bring something great - you - to your next employer.

Glad you're hitting the ground running. That's the best thing you can do. Put the old job behind you and more forward as fast as possible.

It’s been eye opening to see who raises their hand to help and who’s been silent. Thank you for the advice

Good luck, I'm sorry to hear that. Companies are cutting like crazy right now and I feel there's a little contagion effect going on right now.

Reach out direct to hiring managers. Recruiting is generally not very good at screening and this shows initiative which I would assume most hiring managers would like to see. At least, I do.

Thanks for the tip. Any advice on how to tell who the hiring manager is?
