Love in the Time of Sales

Hey Savages. I seem to be in a theme of posting about love.

Do your significant others work in sales? Any relationship tips? Anything that makes it different when you're in sales? For example our quarter ends often land close to Christmas. Or I do a bit of traveling every quarter to meet clients.

How do you choose your partners?

I think sales is pretty stressful and takes a lot of commitment so it's somewhat different from some professions. So I'm curious.

Love you, bye.

My wife is in medicine, owns a mid-size clinic, and I am a VP. We are incredibly busy so we create dedicated time with family where we put our phones in a drawer along with our computers. We delete slack and logout of emails when on vacation, etc.

Create boundaries and increase communication around needs and expectations. Thatโ€™s the secret.

Makes a lot of sense about boundaries. Not always easy to set them and keep them and sometimes adjust and change. Solid advice, thank you!

Was an AE and met my now wife on Tinder and she is in account management (my role at a different org now). Her "sales" situation is a lot more stable so it she doesn't play as many quota-coaster games as I might.
In looking for a partner you need to find the person you can be honest with and want to be better for. Plus good chemistry and communication.
Best of luck in sales and love sir @pirate. Avast ye swab!

Forgive me and my gender assumption but yeah I found that Tinder was great for getting me what I put into it. I was looking for Miss right now and ended up finding Mrs. Right. Go find your fit - you're in sales so you're good at getting what you want, do it in your personal life too! Disco, Demo, and negotiate :D
Full sails ahead for romance MISS @pirate !

Honestly man if itโ€™s meant to be and you love each other itโ€™ll work out. My wife is a nurse and worked nights when we met and I was traveling a lot too, but we made it work, that was 8 years ago and now we are two kids in. And if you find the right one, youโ€™ll know, because you will want to make it work.

Nurse, impressive. Very long hours for both of you then. Glad to hear it has worked out. Inspiring

I met my wife when we were in college. She manages critical incidents for a large software company. We both work remotely, and I've never really had to do too much traveling for work. So I've never really considered my occupation to be an impediment at all.

As for tips, I don't know man. On paper we have nothing in common at all. Different cultural background, different childhood environment (my wife lived in three different countries before the age of 18), she's the youngest of three while I'm the oldest of my siblings, only a few hobbies in common, I'm extroverted she's introverted, etc. We just view the world similarly, and have the same core values, and just genuinely enjoy being around each other. No idea how to replicate that other than just to say when you find it, you know.

My sig o is in finance, so we make sure to take a long way to decompress, vent if needed about our jobs, so when we are back its all about us and not complaining about work

That's a good approach I think. Focus on gratitude and not complaining.

Was not in sales when I met Mr. Bunny, but I also met Mr. Bunny half my age ago, in the days when Win 3.1 was the OS most people had. It's ... been a minute.
He was a teacher, and has since retired. I'm still working.
And I think, as with most good relationships, the key is communication. I had profound career changes throughout the years, and all of it came down to discussing the changes and impact on the family with each other, making sure that each opportunity or step was discussed and agreed to. He switched roles and jobs a few times along the way as well.

Well that's lovely to hear that you've stayed together for so long and through so many changes! Has there been times when you chose your relationship over career opportunities?

More like chose family. I moved to Inside Sales/hybrid when the kids were little so that I wasn't a road warrior and could (mostly) be around. I missed a few things here and there, but was able to be present for them for most of what mattered.

Mine hates sales and negotiations in her private life. So no she's not in sales. She's in the medical field.

noticed dating is a lot like sales in that when you are desperate for a deal, youโ€™re probably not going to get it but when youโ€™re just having fun with it, it comes naturally and you might even see a positive week. keep ur net wide, distance urself from the results, enjoy the process. the person youโ€™re with doesnโ€™t have to be doing the same thing as you, too many similarities can work against you in a relationship
