Messed up the role play - How to prep/practice?

I had a Panel interview where I had to do a Mock discovery call. The company uses MEDDIC and I prepared to have relevant discovery and pain questions. I was told I did not do a deep enough discovery and digging into their answers.

I kinda agree with the feedback and think I am just not in practice on doing these hardcore 1st discovery calls as I have been employed 4 years as an Account Manager and I have not done interviews for years. It seems the bar is higher than when I did these last. - Does anyone have tips or ideas for resources to practice this? Thanks!

Hhahaa - It happened with me just a month back! They follow - and are married to MEDDIC. I did a decent discovery according to me, but I missed out on all the metrics that they were looking for.
And I tanked the call, just like that.
How to practice this? I do this -
First be very very comfortable with the terms. What each of these letters stand for - make sure you are sure and comfortable with them.

Next on, list down all the questions that come to your mind, with each of these metrics. What you can possibly ask to check that one parameter out. For example - What are the possible next steps / how do we proceed further / who all need to be onboard for a decision like this? / How do you onboard a typical SaaS tool?

These questions qualify one or more metrics in MEDDIC. Once you have listed these questions out, listen to calls by the top performers and see what variations of these questions have they asked, and how.

It comes with live practice though.

There's always a learning curve to interview (same as with the job itself). That's why you should always be interviewing - even if its just to keep your skills sharp.

Just keep interviewing. I find mock discovery calls the worst because it's like running a perfect sales discovery call to a sales audience. Normal audience does not behave like it. I always did well with telling about my deals and how I am and why I want this etc.
