Job Search - Mock Role play

Hello Fellow War room members,

I am currently interviewing for a job rôle trying to switch my current company after working here for 5 years. I have cleared the first 2 rounds and have to prepare for my next round which is basically a role play conversation
Role play scenario: We will have a role play when i am an Account Manager at (interviewing company) handling a Financial company as a target account. I will be speaking with the Director and Vice President who have expressed an interest in learning about the solution after learning one of the teams is already using our product.

My Question: How do i best prepare for this round? Do i make a presentation? What is the best way to approach this and succeed here?
I would really appreciate all the help!

PS: Do I make a presentation deck or should I go ahead, prepare and keep it conversational?

recruiter should have the answers or best practices. a light deck with visual queues could help but don't live and die by a long deck.
think about the scorecard they are most likely looking at, might look like this: -did they confirm the time
-did they build rapport
-did they set an agenda
-did they show they did some research
-did they run discovery questions (open ended)
-did they have a 10,000 foot view of how our product could help solve X problem that is uncovered in discovery
-did they set hard next steps / maybe light close

-bonus points solving problems directly to the roles of the people on the mock call

my $0.02 most of the time in this situation the person on the other end will drop hints or share major pain points. if you can use their own words "as you mentioned, process is broken because X - that's how we've helped a similar company Y, think we can do the same for you"

you're not supposed to know everything, running a sales call is what they are looking for more than product knowledge here. can they coach you to what they want or do they have to start from sales 101 is the barometer in this situation.
good luck!

I really like this answer, and the formatting didn't throw me.
It covers the overall scorecard, plus the underlying goal of the call.
I will add that every so often they will throw a hurdle at you - not to get you to fail, but to see how you handle a challenge, or a response to a question you don't know the answer to.

Ask recruiters and hiring managers for some resourcesResearch the personaFind out what the pain is... make sure to cover all the discovery question and do a perfect follow up as well. Sometimes I have gotten nervous and missed a few and there is no room for that like with the customers.
Good luck!

This is great advice. OP can add some other research if they give you a real company name as the target (growth, new products, anything in the news). Just show that you can take the information you are given and speak to it, then dig into the pain, finally offer a solution. That usually works, and sets you up for success.

bounce the idea of hiring manager. At first glance, I would have a deck, but a minimal one. Maybe a fake quote from this fake team about why they love the tool and what outcomes it has driven for them, maybe a product overview slide to drive conversation as well.

Keep it conversational ,just to show em that you're confident about your role and ready for any challenging questions about your task, main advice here to study the full AM title roles and responsibilities to make sure you have a full understanding of it, that will definitely assist with answering any tough questions they may have for you!

Have they given any instructions on to how they would like to see this handled and are they willing to share slides with you?
