But if you've been producing and you've got dialogue with the bosses, why can't you just straight up ask them to help you? Get human, humbly merchandise your accomplishments and ask.

I 100% agree, they can't think it's threatening if you are simply following their advice

Just don’t start with “I’m coming for your job”.

Many people want to move up. It’s not a secret. Talk to them about opportunities and see what they say.

Have a conversation about career growth and pathways at the company. it's a conversation, not a duel.

Well, Eric at NCR.... I don't think being nuanced is one of your strengths, so I would let them know directly that you have aspirations beyond your current position.
So the best thing to do is make your boss(es) look so good that as they rise they will want to bring you with them. That is assuming you want to stay in your current company, NCR.

The first thing is to remove "threatening" as a word in this process. If they are doing good, they will be moving ahead in their career too. So you won't be replacing anybody's job - but replacing a role.
If they are not doing good at their role, you're again not hurting anybody but doing good for the company.

How do you do that - by initiating a conversation first. Ask your seniors (not superiors) what their role is like, how did they get there and stuff like that. Educate yourself, and then go about having the chat of your career growth as well - as you have been performing well for over a period of time; and that you would want a good progressive step now.

If your manager or superior is threatened by you they are not a good manager. If they truly have your back they will support you attempting to climb the ladder.

Good companies do what they can to keep good talent.
