Opportunity today or in the future

Let's say I could make $300,000 guaranteed within 5 years if I stay where I am, I'm making a sub-$100k base and after a year in I probably won't see any commission for another year.

Or take a 25% base increase with quicker sales cycles NOW, and potentially $300,000 by being promoted or moving into enterprise sales position. What would you choose?

More money now. Sales doesn't reward loyalty. It rewards performance and negotiating the best for yourself whenever you can.

Money now, if the new position/company is a fit for you and isn't a horrible work place.

Time kills deals and kills $$.  Get that cash in pocket and start providing the benefits to you (savings, investments, travel) that will make living your life better.   Just my $.02.

Is your current sales cycle not enterprise instead of SMB?

If it's not, then I'd take the role with the increased base. Put up some big numbers and then look for that promo or a new job.

5 years is a long ass time, lotta things can change.

It has the length of enterprise but it’s really SMB. New position would be mid-market

Take the increase. Take what will lead to higher income. Take what will open the door to higher earning and opportunities.

i just had a similar post to this as well and I agree with the feedback I got......take the money now. its harder for a company to lower your base than it is to lower your OTE or variable comp.

take that base $$$
